Blur

Mechanic Frequency

New 27 Feb 2024 Asked by flakmaniak 20 Comments

The line between deciduous and evergreen can blur, right? Like if evergreen means "every set MUST contain at least one of this", if a deciduous mechanic started showing up in "most sets", there wouldn't be a notion that it then HAS to appear in all of them, right? Even if it showed up in, say, 80% of them. Or, a mechanic like double strike. Does every set have a double strike creature? Is that a mandate? I would think not; it's just super-heavily-deciduous, or almost-evergreen.

Evergreen usually means most sets. Deciduous is less than that. But yes, the line can blur a bit.

Black Impulse Conditions

New 27 Jul 2022 Asked by djscrub 56 Comments

If any color can Impulse for anything it can tutor for, does that mean that black could get a color-shifted actual Impulse (maybe at a higher mana value)?

That’s the one area we’re being careful with to not blur blue and black. We’re making black pay an additional cost, usually life, when doing it.

Clarifying Two-headed Unstable Gameplay

Two headed Unstable questions!1. In draft do we share a contraption deck, or do we split?2. Can I ask my teammate to ask wrong unguessed letters fot the Hangman?3. Can glass-wearing player block blurry beeble if I attack glassless player?

1. You each have your own Contraption deck.2. No.3. Yes.

Requirement for Black Angels

New 23 Jan 2021 Asked by scribeoftheunquietmind 45 Comments

What exactly, flavor-wise, would having more black angels require? I would love for Orzhov angels to be a thing in constructed, but between one BW angel in Ravnica and the few black valkyries in Kaldheim that are mostly good for limited, there isn’t nearly enough to work with for tribal. I love Orzhov Vampires and Knights, but Orzhov Angels would be my new obsession.

On Ravnica, we divvied up the creature types between the guilds to help them feel more distinct. If every white guild has Angels, it makes them blur more.I think Angels have to play a larger role in the world to justify a second color. I do believe black is a possibility if the Angels play a darker role on the plane.

Request for Logo Varieties

New 27 Oct 2020 Asked by ennead 77 Comments

Hi Mark. I know this might be a bit odd, but one thing I've been noticing is that a lot of the logos for sets released in the last couple of years have been using the same font on packaging and boxes, and I feel like as a result, they all tend to blur together a bit visually and don't communicate the feel of each set they represent super well with a lot of them just being variations of the Beleren font. Would it be possible to request more varied-looking logos like the sets pre-Dominaria?

You’ll be happy to know that upcoming premier sets logos won’t all be Beleren.

Blurry Beeble Rules

New 19 Feb 2018 Asked by tarrandus 20 Comments

Hey Mark, I'm not sure if your ruling on Blurry Beeble is correct. The 2HG rules actually have a section on figuring out situations with abilities that refer to defending players. Notably, rule 810.7b states: "cases in which the “defending player” is referred to actually refer to both defending players. If the reference involves a positive comparison, it gets only one answer. This answer is “yes” if either defending player in the comparison would return a “yes” answer if compared individually."

I will double check with Eli when I’m back in the office. If there is a black border precedent, I usually follow it.

Blurry Beeble Gameplay

New 17 Feb 2018 Asked by solar-bream 34 Comments

Un-rules question: how does Blurry Beeble work in 2HG if one of my opponents wears glasses and the other does not?

It’s unblockable by creatures controlled by players who weren’t wearing glasses when it was cast. In Two-Headed Giant, that could mean one player’s creatures can’t block it.

Un-design Clothing Mechanic

New 02 Jan 2018 Asked by milktaoist 29 Comments

So removal of clothing is un-design space that is unlikely to be explored - is there any potential for cards that encourage wearing of certain articles, or ask players to put more clothes on?

Blurry Beeble makes people wear glasses.

Unstable Draft in France

New 09 Dec 2017 Asked by yggdrasild49 29 Comments

MaRoooooo !!!! I had a total blast at the Unstable draft. As a rather medium player, I managed to crank up the 1st place on my table with a W/U Widget deck, supported by Humming-Octopusses that assembled lots of Contraptions for me! I don't even know where to start among all the fun moments I had... More or Less, Hot Fix, Blurry Beeble, Sacrificial Play... I even got my hands on the Widget Secret Base to smooth everything out! (And I usually not like W/U...) Thanks, merci !! From France 🇫🇷

Monocle Exception

New 25 Nov 2017 Asked by christhein456-blog 56 Comments

"Does a monocle count? Closer, but still no." I wear a monocle all day to correct an issue with my one eye and I can't wear glasses because i'm missing my other ear! can an exception be made?

If you are unable to wear normal glasses, you may count a monocle as glasses for Blurry Beeble.

Mark, if I feel very strongly that Blurry Beeble should count monocles as glasses and shouldn't count sunglasses who at Wizards should I direct my concerns to?

Me.

Glasses Specifications

New 23 Nov 2017 Asked by dezeker 17 Comments

quick question about Blurry Beeble - the FAQ says they need to be actual glasses with lenses; just wanted to confirm whether or not that this disqualifies prop/fashion glasses without lenses as well as shutter glasses since they dont have any either. thanks for making this set a reality!!

They have to be glasses with lenses. The lenses don’t have to be prescription.

Answering Queries Ratio

New 15 Jun 2013 Asked by andrewmoorehead 16 Comments

Approximately what percentage of questions asked here actually get answered? I have asked several and never been answered.

I answer a tiny percentage. So far, for example, I have been asked 65,301 questions. No wait, I think I might have answered 65,301 questions. I’m not sure any more. It’s all a big blur. On the plus side, I finally answered one of your questions.

User Icon Recognition

New 10 Jan 2013 Asked by treago 4 Comments

do you ever vaguely recognize the icons of the user you're answering, since i know remembering usernames is right out? (oh its shouting stick figure guy!)

I answer so many questions that the names and picture are honestly (no offense) a blur. I recognize certain pictures that I see a lot but I do one-for-one connect them to questions.

Handling Questions

New 20 Dec 2012 Asked by unknownwarrior33 3 Comments

There are some people on here who ask a LOT of questions. Do you ever take a look at a question and think, "oh boy, this guy again..."?

I answer so many questions that the names kind of blur together. I recognize plenty of names but can’t isolate what each person asked me that I answered.
