Unfinity Collector Requests

New 03 Oct 2022 Asked by jeffsachs 32 Comments

Hey Mark,

I want to thank you for giving Unfinity Collector Boosters a "list" slot. This is going to help me in my dream of making a fully foiled all un-card Commander deck (to get the best use of Super Secret Tech). I would like to request foil printings of: Timmy, Power Gamer; Strategy, Schmategy; Bronze Calendar; Jack-in-the-Mox; Checks and Balances; Common Courtesy; Free-for-All; Cheatyface; and Underdome.

In addition the following are really hard to get a hold of in foil and could use a reprint: Johnny, Combo Player; Who/What/When/Where/Why; Gleemax; Mox Lotus; City of Ass; Super Secret Tech.Thank you for all you've done for silly magic!

You’re welcome. I wish you the best of luck in your mission.

Reprinting Timmy and Johnny

New 19 Sep 2022 Asked by 22bebo 64 Comments

Do you think we could ever see a reprint of Timmy, Power Gamer or Johnny, Combo Player but with the name changed to Tammy/Jenny respectively? Using a similar tech to the Universes Within cards or the Godzilla/Dracula nameplates?

I hope so. It almost happened in Unsanctioned.

Eternal Print for Card Characters

New 01 Jan 2022 Asked by dapatman-blog 41 Comments

Am I right in thinking Timmy, Power Gamer, Johnny, Combo Player and Spike, Tournament Grinder could all be printed as eternal?

Timmy and Johnny probably. Spike is a lot more dangerous.

Johnny Combo Flavor

New 29 Jan 2020 Asked by slimegirl-pseudopod 48 Comments

Maro, I have to give kudos on the flavor text to Johnny, Combo Player, which after seeing this card many times, I just realized lists a combo for infinite colorless mana to infinitely activate his ability. Hats off to you, good sir.

Un-cards have a lot of deep cuts. : )

Old Cards New Art

New 28 Jan 2020 Asked by verygoodtom 25 Comments

Hi Mark, really excited for unsanctioned! Will we see many of the old cards get new art? Many thanks!

Most of the old cards have the same art. Timmy, Power Gamer got new art and a few arts had tiny tweaks, like Johnny, Combo Player.

Did you know that Johnny, Combo Player is the only card name in all of Magic to include the letters of "bop" in order?

I did not.

Reflecting on Johnny

Hay Mark, in retrospect, would you have made the Johnny, combo player card more Johnnish?

It’s pretty Johnny. It enables combos.

Spike's Card Art

Why doesn't Spike, Tournament Grinder have the fronts of Magic cards on her card art, like Johnny, Combo Player does? Thanks

Different card concept.

Name Confusion

New 10 Oct 2017 Asked by basketofpuppies 40 Comments

I was recently talking to a friend about Ajani, who was confused because they thought I was talking about the card Johnny, Combo Player due to the names sounding very similar. Are occurrences like these something that Wizards is working to minimize?

With 17,000 cards, it’s hard to avoid.

Player Archetypes

New 07 Feb 2014 Asked by lyzzow 41 Comments

Timmy is green, Johnny is blue, Spike is black; does that make any sense to you?

Timmy, Power Gamer in Unglued is green and Johnny, Combo Player in Unhinged is blue.

Un-set Cycle Completion

New 01 Apr 2012 Asked by trompinha-blog 6 Comments

If the Un-set 3 becomes a reality, will we see the "Timmy, Power Gamer" and "Johnny, Combo Player" cycle completed? It would be awesome if you made a Spike, Vorthos and Melvin on the 3 other colors :)

Spike is the final card for that cycle. Vorthos and Melvin are not psychographic profiles but extremes of a spectrum examining how players appeciate the cards.
