Icy Manipulator

Printability of Winter Moon

New 01 May 2024 Asked by nothingbutland-blog 23 Comments

What about Winter Moon would make it not Standard printable? Its non basic land punishment, but still allows the game to progress just a bit slowly without Icy Manipulator its not any kind of lock card.

My guess is a Standard version would be at a lower power level.

Colored Artifacts Benefits

New 24 Oct 2023 Asked by jeskaisekai 32 Comments

If you ever made a colored version of colorless artifacts (es: red gingerbrute, azorious Icy manipulator etc) do you think they will get some upsides? Like costing less mana, having bigger stats or or having addittional effects?

Colored mana gets more power than the equivalent generic cost, if that’s what you’re asking.

Dominaria Drafting

New 22 Apr 2018 Asked by phyrexianperspective 31 Comments

I had the most fun in drafting Dominaria at the prerelease that I've had in a decade. Never once was I bored or not having fun. Old classics like Juggernaut, Thorn Elemental and Icy Manipulator performed well with the new cards and meshed seamlessly. I purchased four boxes today and completed the set. That is the most I've ever purchased in one day for Magic. Kudos all around, fantastic, fantastic product. The minor gripes I have are utterly dwarfed by my enjoyment of the set.

I’m happy you’re so happy.

Icy Manipulator Controversy

"Every set past Alpha to have Icy Manipulator in it has led to big fights. It’s always a controversial reprint." Is this still true? I'm looking forward to hearing the story about getting icy manipulator in dominaria.

Oh, there was a fight about it.

Hi Mark! Can you tell us more why Icy Manipulator is such a controversial reprint?

Having your lands tapped down can be very frustrating for players.

Mana Confluence vs City

New 12 Apr 2014 Asked by kingrames 28 Comments

I like that Mana confluence is just flat out better than city of brass, not intentionally weaker like tarnished citadel tried to be. Being on the opposite side of the table as an Icy Manipulator (remember how people used to talk about how broken THAT was?) was as frustrating as seeing furnace of rath. Mana confluence protects you from both! And at a much nicer cost...

It’s not strictly better. You can prevent the damage from City of Brass.

Un-rules Query

More Un-rules questions: If Player A controls Burning Cinder Fury of Crimson Chaos Fire and then taps something of Player B's with an Icy Manipulator, what happens at the end of the turn?

When a card is tapped it’s given to the opponent of the person who tapped it so basically nothing happens.
