Gilded Goose

Evergreen Keywords and Colors

New 28 Apr 2022 Asked by nicklbailey 42 Comments

"Do you feel like you are stretching evergreen keywords to too many colors. Reach used to be only green now white and red can both get it. Green gets flying in almost ever set now and even blue has haste and is getting vigilance."For reference, Mono-Green has gotten exactly 5 creatures with Flying in premier sets since the Tarkir block. Three are parts of dragon cycles, one is a callback to an iconic green dragon and one is Gilded Goose, which has 0 power and so mechanically is similar to reach. The claim that Green gets flying almost every set is very false.

Gilded Goose and Monogreen Discrepancy

So is gilded goose also monogreen because birds of paradise grandfathered it in? 0 power and flying doesn't seem that different from reach to me.

It turns out there is a difference, but as you feel they’re the same hopefully us doing the one more in color pie shouldn’t be a big deal. : )

Alternative Colors for Birds

If gilded goose and birds of paradise weren't green, what color(s) would they be? I can't think of any other colors they could be

Green can have creatures that tap for any color of mana. They mostly shouldn’t fly.

Gilded Goose Classification

Gilded Goose is a mono-green mana dork. Given its color and function, why did y'all make it a bird, requiring it to fly?

It was a top-down design of a Golden Goose.

Evil Geese Appreciation

I must make a counterpoint. The card design for Gilded Goose is excellent, but the fact you have made it a goose is a tragedy. Geese are the greatest evil we have ever seen, sent from the 9th sphere of Phyrexia, to exterminate all life unlike themselves. No question, but geese are evil. (Love the card though)

Green can have evil creatures.

Gilded Goose Appreciation

Gilded Goose is my new favourite Magic card because a. it's a powerful one-drop mana accelerant in my favourite colour, 2. it packs a lot of gameplay possibilities into a relatively short and simple textbox and iii. it's a freakin goose. I have no question

Then I will give no answer. : )I am happy so many are enjoying Gilded Goose.

Gilded Goose's Flight

New 05 Oct 2019 Asked by rhonas-the-indomitable-blog 40 Comments

How did Gilded Goose get flying in mono green? Is this a break?

Green gets flying infrequently. Note it’s a 0/2, so it’s mostly defensive and green gets anti-flying defensive things like reach.

Gilded Goose Explanation

I don't understand your comment on Gilded Goose in your article this week: "we really wanted a Golden Goose, which meant we felt it had to repeatedly make Gold counters, which, in turn, meant it was either red or green..." I don't think there are any green cards that make either gold or treasures. Also, can't black repeatedly create gold tokens? I'm not saying a goose feels black, I just don't understand how the gold tokens restricted color to red or green.

Green and red are the top two colors in mana production.
