Enter the Dungeon

Dungeon Mechanic Return

New 04 Apr 2024 Asked by strymon 29 Comments

Do you foresee Entering the Dungeon ever making a return in a premier set? I like the idea of Enter the Dungeon, but I feel like it was held back by the complexity of AFR. Checking out The Undercity and Baldur’s Gate Wilderness, the mechanic seems much more exciting. It makes me want to see what an ordinary Limited format with it where it shines.

If we do another D&D set, it would definitely be on the table.

Subgame Casting Rules

New 22 Dec 2023 Asked by hyralc 16 Comments

Re the Subgame revelation question. Since Revelation says "on the table" but enter the Dungeon must be "under the table" it's probably a question wondering about that interaction

Your hand is on the table, but you are able to cast it from under the table. It will then enter the stack and possibly the battlefield under the table.

Subgame Rules Question

New 21 Dec 2023 Asked by j-waffles 26 Comments

UN-RULES QUESTION!!! I cast enter the dungeon. During the subgame, I play R&D’s secret lair, and also play revelation. Am I allowed to look at/play cards from my subgame hand?

The hand that gets revealed by the Revelation is your subgame hand. And yes, you are allowed to play cards from it. I’m not getting what shenanigans you’re up to.

Unstable Draft Fun

New 09 Oct 2022 Asked by basketofpuppies 39 Comments

I drafted Unstable last night, and it was some of the most fun with Magic I’ve had in a while. My opponent round 1 was a good friend; they cast Photo Op to get Enter the Dungeon. While I’m that subgame, I cast Tug of War to start another. Later, I helped someone hide a Clown Robot token for the Surprise Party that I passed them. Can you distribute the highest of fives to the design team?

Will do. : )

Devil K. Nevil Jump

New 22 Sep 2022 Asked by mumonrift-blog 36 Comments

How should I jump Devil K. Nevil if I am playing on the floor due to Enter the Dungeon or just not playing at a table?

You may use the top of the table just for the jump if there’s no way to do it under the table.

Unconventional Play Tale

New 21 Aug 2022 Asked by bitwisenot 42 Comments

Hi Mark! Wanted to share an Un-story with you. I brought a Unsanctioned box and Jump-Start packs on a cruise this past week and so a friend and I jammed one of the Un-packs with a Jump-start pack each and played on a table out on the ship. We got some strange stares especially when I announced my creatures with Emcee and we moved under the table as my friend played Enter the Dungeon. Thanks for all the fun Un-designs!

Thank you for sharing your story.

Kitchen Table Magic Experience

New 29 Jun 2022 Asked by vodalianjavelineer 76 Comments

Maro, my group (kitchen table magic) also allows silver bordered cards. I have a deck with four copies of Enter the Dungeon (and four The Countdown is at One), and yes (YES!) we were once four dungeons deep. We moved from the table, to the floor, to another table in the basement, to the basement floor, and then we just had to move over a little bit for the last dungeon since we couldn’t get any lower.

: )I love Un-stories. Thanks for sharing.

Enter the Dungeon Twice Scenario

New 15 May 2021 Asked by heyitsmeurspacewizard 67 Comments

If you cast Enter the Dungeon, and then during that subgame, you cast it again, what happens? Do you have to find a second, smaller table to play under?

If you can, go one floor down. : )Improvise the best you can. Try to capture the spirit.

The Floor is Lava Game

New 02 May 2020 Asked by jacethebeltsculptor 80 Comments

Hey, Mark! Congrats on ending a four-day long game of The Floor is Lava at a friend's dorm room! She and her two roommates had been playing for four days until two sat down with a box of Unsanctioned. One of them cast Enter the Dungeon, allowing it to resolve before realizing what she'd done.

That was a 3D chess level move. : )

Recalling an Exceptional Game

New 02 May 2020 Asked by ricketyeng 129 Comments

FYI the world's BEST game of Magic has been played by my wife and I and no other can hope to top it: An Enter the Dungeon subgame under the table. Old Fogey played. Frankie Peanuts used his question and Sword of d&d to make a dragon. BINGO was achieved. A 10/10 BINGO was successfully blocked to survive with 1 life. Slaying Mantis was thrown. Frankie Peanuts - "will you give me sweet sweet kisses until end of turn?" meant the final turn included much kissing. And this was all under the table.

I congratulate you on playing the best ever game of Magic. Thanks for sharing.

Unsanctioned Play Experience

New 25 Apr 2020 Asked by jimmycomments 89 Comments

Finally got round to playing Unsanctioned for the first time with my housemate. We've only played two games but it was a massive load of fun! Enter the Dungeon is a really fun card!

Always happy to hear fun stories about Un-play. And yes, I’m very proud of the design of Enter the Dungeon. Ever notice people playing Enter the Dungeon in the art of Stone-Cold Basilisk?

Predictions for Future Un-Sets

New 17 Mar 2020 Asked by ultwarrior 31 Comments

Are more effects like Enter the Dungeon under the table for future Un-sets?

So far every Un-booster set has had a subgame.

Subgame Event Impact

New 29 Feb 2020 Asked by awaywardhill 26 Comments

Unrules Question: do the events that take place during the subgame from Enter the Dungeon count as taking place during the turn in which Enter the Dungeon was played in the main game. During the subgame I revealed Infernal Spawn 4 times, does that mean my Infernius Spawnington III, Esq. costs 12 less or is it full price?

No, the subgame is its own game.

Un-set Card Request

New 28 Dec 2017 Asked by theactr-blog 71 Comments

So I realize I am maybe alone in wanting this but could we PLEASE get more cards like Mouth to Mouth, Eye To Eye, Enter the Dungeon, Hangman etc. I want to make a Kitchen Table Commander deck that just has the table playing random games and contests.

That’s a silver border thing, so what I’m hearing is more Un-sets.

Unconventional Play Space

New 25 Aug 2017 Asked by sovereign42 107 Comments

unrules question, very important, life or death here... What happens if you cast enter the dungeon while not playing on a table... let's say, hypothetically, that we're playing on the back of an elephant, for instance?

You need to play under your play space as best as possible. On the back of an elephant? Play under the elephant? Playing on the floor? Play one floor lower. If you can’t physically play under it, capture the spirit as best you can. For example, go find a table and play under it.

Commander in Sub-Games

New 02 Nov 2016 Asked by broadlover 37 Comments

Un-Rules question: In a game of Commander, I have my Commander on board and my opponent casts Enter the Dungeon. Can I re-cast my Commander in the second game? And if the second game ends, does my Commander re-enter the original battlefield?

You can only cast your Commander from the Command Zone so no. If you summon your Commander (from the Command Zone) into a sub-game and the sub-game ends, your Commander returns to the Command Zone where he or she can be summoned from in the main game.

Border Mechanics Shift

New 26 Aug 2016 Asked by gustavegraves 16 Comments

Which do you like better: silver border mechanics shifting to black border (like barren glory) or black border to silver (like enter the dungeon)?

The second isn’t black border to silver border. They’re silver border because they didn’t work in black border.

Silver Border Innovations

New 11 Jun 2016 Asked by aazadan 148 Comments

Is silver border allowed to make a new card type, or would it be too confusing?

It’s not off the table. Except Enter the Dungeon. That was under the table.

Subgame Complications

New 15 Mar 2016 Asked by captainnightmayor 62 Comments

If I cast Enter the Dungeon while already in an Enter the Dungeon subgame are we (the players) already considered under the table or do we have to go under "the table" and play on the floor below.

You have to try and go deeper into the dungeon. One floor down is good if you can do it.

Un-Rules Enter the Dungeon

New 08 Aug 2015 Asked by mowdownjoe 26 Comments

So, if Un-rules defines "table" as any playing surface, what happens if you play Enter the Dungeon while playing on a floor? Or outside on the driveway?

You do the best you can to capture the spirit. I’ve heard of people then playing a floor lower.
