Veil of Summer

Query on Color Appropriation

New 02 Jan 2022 Asked by estebatto 28 Comments

Can Autum's Veil / Veil of Summer be other colors or is it something only green should get?

Can’t be countered is primary red and green, secondary blue.Granting hexproof is primary green and blue.So blue could also do both, but not for green’s enemies specifically.

Color Hate and Bending Rules

New 28 Oct 2021 Asked by goldgaridelve 44 Comments

How much can color hate allow a color to bend/break? I know Lifeforce itself wouldn't be in the color pie for Green today, but it seems very similar to Veil of Summer.

Very early Magic allowed a color to get the abilities of its enemies when hating upon it. We stopped doing that pretty quickly.

Counterspell Protection Alternatives

New 27 Sep 2020 Asked by berry-maker 67 Comments

It feels wrong to me that the only answer to a counterspell is another counterspell, but you banned veil of summer, should the other colours not have a way of protecting against counterspells other than just running blue for counters to their counters...

Red and green have “can’t be countered”, black has discard and white has proactive answers.

Impact of Powerful Color Breaks

New 29 Aug 2020 Asked by boltedmonkeyman-deactivated2023 46 Comments

I agree you shouldn't ban a card simply because it is a color pie break, but I feel that if a card (even a bend) undermines its color's weakness or another color's strength so significantly that it becomes a key game piece, then it needs to be banned. Path to Exile comes close in Modern, undermining black's status as the best creature killer; Veil of Summer is nearly a green Dismiss for 1-mana, and Reality Acid in Pauper grants blue access to repeatable permanent removal. Powerful bends/breaks.

Most larger formats are based on key cards that are color pie breaks. You’re not asking for a tiny thing.

Concerns Over New Card Impact

New 19 Apr 2020 Asked by mirra94 67 Comments

Hi Mark. I know quite a few players are becoming concerned about the "pseudo-rotation" that has been occurring in eternal formats due to the printing of hyper-pushed cards in standard. It seems like it has happened every set for a while now - Hogaak and Urza, Oko and OUaT, Veil of Summer, Uro, and now the incredibly game-warping companion mechanic granting so many decks free advantage. Is this the effect these cards were intended to have? I'm currently scared for the future of the game I love.

The nature of a trading card game is we make new cards and those new cards get played in various formats evolving things. We aren’t making new things stronger than cards already in those formats.

Control Deck Concerns

I just tried Standard again for the first time in months, and the format is infected with control decks. Please unban Veil of Summer so that green decks can stand a chance again.

You’re my first “green is too weak” post of 2020. Aw!!!

Player Hexproof Count

New 11 Jan 2020 Asked by the-plainswalker 49 Comments

"How many cards even grant hexproof to players?" - I think 11 total, 5 of which are in Standard currently (Gruul Spellbreaker, Lazotep Plating, Leyline of Sanctity, Teyo the Shieldmage, Veil of Summer).
