Plunge into Winter Query

New 28 Oct 2023 Asked by ad33dwithoutaname 58 Comments

How is Plunge into Winter not blue?

Tapping creatures is primary white. Blue can do it, but it more often taps or untaps (aka Twiddle) or taps and stuns. All colors can scry 1 and cantrip, with white being number two, behind blue, in both.

Rowan and Will Cards

New 16 Aug 2023 Asked by ehksidian 38 Comments

Mark! I just wanna say that the cards for Will and Rowan being mirrors of each other is super neat - and how easy it is to build decks for both that perfectly match how they are in the story. Rowan wants one big explosive turn, but Will can play around with Twiddle effects to more strategically set it up, which is exactly how each of them are. Not to mention what reduces the cost.Fantastic designs. I was really down on Eldraine the first time, but I have to say: I am loving Wilds already for this sort of thing.

Glad you like it.

Magic-Slang Names Request

New 07 Jul 2023 Asked by lariatstoboy 42 Comments

Hi Mark! Can I request more cards with magic-slang names? I have a set of decks I built for new players that contains a bunch of cards that are meant to subtly teach the various magic slang words through play (bolt, twiddle, mill, loot, etc.). However, there are still a bunch of magic terms without corresponding cards (like bounce, tuck, ping). Can I request some commons with those names in the future? Its easier to teach new players the terms when they have simple cards that do those things.

I can pass along the request.

Return of Costlier Boomerang

Will we ever see a 3 or 4 mana Boomerang a, Mana Short or Twiddle again or is Blue just no longer able to interact with land?

We do it very infrequently.

Blue's Blocking Prevention Options

New 21 Feb 2022 Asked by justwantedtoknowstuff 29 Comments

Someone was asking if blue can make a creature not able to block. Isn't twiddle still in color for blue? Even freeze. So you get the effect of not being able to block, with an extra. And that is not counting bounce!

Blue can still Twiddle (tap or untap) or Freeze (tap and it doesn’t untap) a creature, so it can essentially keep it from blocking. My point wasn’t that it’s problematic in blue as much as we like differentiating effects by color for flavor and nuance.

Social Media Confusion

New 23 Feb 2019 Asked by subwayray 24 Comments

How do you know you are very ingrained in social media? When you confuse the card Twiddle with the word Twitter? As done in your Lorwyn pt 3 Podcast! 😄

In my defense, Twitter is pretty blue. Okay, white/blue. : )

Planeswalkers and Tapping

New 19 Jan 2019 Asked by gankra 31 Comments

I always assumed planeswalkers not using tapping was to allow ultimates to be pushed and exciting without having to worry about twiddle effects being overpowered (flickering, while still powerful with planeswalkers, prevents progress towards ultimates because it resets loyalty). Was that really not a concern?

That was a concern. I will note we don’t often untap permanents rather than spelled out card types.

Twiddle Reprint Possibility

Could Twiddle be reprinted in a standard-legal set?

I just asked and was told yes, it could. It’s st the right power level (and is still in color).

Teferi Ability Color Pie

New 01 Jan 2019 Asked by mittoo 48 Comments

Is Teferi, Hero of Dominarias first ability a bend? I haven't seen much of blue untapping lands since the old broken days.

Blue can Twiddle (tap or untap permanents). We use it more on creatures, but blue can tap and untap lands. No bend, just in the color pie. It’s just not an effect we do a lot of.

Flowstone Ability Perception

New 18 Aug 2013 Asked by tnessfftto 1 Comments

Do you think the flowstone ability has come to be perceived as more blue than red because it feels conceptually a bit like a Twiddle? A responder asked if you could split it up -1/+1 blue, +1/-1 red, and my reaction was that actually, currently, red having the option to do either seems more manipulative and less single-minded than its typical mechanics. (Mind you, I actually think that's a good thing.)

Blue tends to get +1/-1 (and often -1/+1) on things that have a shapeshifter feel.

Twiddle's Color Identity

New 22 Mar 2012 Asked by philosophile42 2 Comments

Twiddle was blue... Is it still blue? Was Untapping effects green (instill energy e.g)? If twiddle was reprinted in a new color, what color would you make it? Or does it combine two things that aren't really defined by the modern color pie?

Tapping or untapping is blue. Tapping is white. Untapping is in the process of shifting so I don’t want to pin it down right now.
