Hydroblast Color Potential

"Could Hydroblast fit as a white-blue card? On the assumption that white can destroy any permanent except lands but lands are almost never going to be red?""Maybe, but it sure wouldn't cost one. : )"What about an Un-Card that costs half a white (like Little Girl)and half a blue?

White doesn’t get “destroy target red permanent” cheap.

Color Pie Interaction

New 11 Feb 2023 Asked by clarks2009 121 Comments

Hey mark, I wanted to understand the hang ups with the design team not doing more pyroblast/ hydroblast effects. Allowing non blue colors the ability to counter an “opposite” in the color pie seems like a fitting mechanic to allow every color to interact on the stack. Can you do some clarifying on why that isn’t a thing?

Blue can’t destroy permanents, red or not, and red can’t counter spells, blue or not.Having a color be an enemy doesn’t mean you get resources you normally don’t.

If we did have a set on a water plane, I'm sure it would be a hydroblast!

Hybrid Mana Challenges

New 17 Jan 2015 Asked by magic--the--memeing 54 Comments

The problem with Hybrid Mana is that even if a player intends to use only one color, the creature is still both colors. For example, if I was playing a Mono-Green EDH deck with Dues of Calamity, my opponent could still Hydroblast it because even though I only played green mana for in in my green deck, it still is a red card. I understand that the spirit of Hybrid mana is that a card is either one color or the other, but the rules made them both colors for what I assume was simplicity sake.

But those interactions can happen in every other format when you play a monoblack deck. I don’t understand why Commander can’t work like every other format.

Color Pie Violations

So, if Anarchy breaks color pie, do REB, BEB, Pyroblast and Hydroblast break it as well?

Yes, they do.
