Black Wrath Sorceries

New 23 Feb 2020 Asked by treacherytheardilous 63 Comments

If wraths are seen in both black and white, why does mono-black has such a small number of wrath sorceries? Damnation, Crux of Fate, Life's Finale, the one from the original Theros Block, Bontu's Last Reckoning... and that's basically it. I'd like to see black having more Wraths.

Because it’s a distant second to white in Wrath effects.

Foil Siege Watermarks

New 12 Jan 2018 Asked by orohu 29 Comments

As far as silver bordered rules care, do the foil Siege cycle cards (and foil Crux of Fate) have both the KTK and DTK watermarks? Or is the shifting watermark considered its own watermark?

It has both watermarks.

Watermark Mechanics Explanation

New 14 Nov 2017 Asked by taitaikou 16 Comments

How do watermark mechanics work for non-unset cards? I'm more curious about cards such as Crux of Fate and the Siege cycle from FRF where the premium version has a lenticular watermark.

It works for any card with a watermark even in black border.

Foils and Watermarks

Re: Italics-less foils; so can we infer that it doesn't take the same herculean effort to sneak a watermark onto a card for its foil? Crux of Fate and the Siege cycle from FRF had those Khans-Vs-Dragons watermarks on them that aren't present on the regular kind.

Every time you see a card that is different in any way, that was a new card that someone had to lay out.

Sixth Age Flag

New 08 Aug 2016 Asked by space-wizards 27 Comments

If "telling the story with the cards" is the biggest flag for the Sixth age of design, then I think the earliest point it could begin with is the printing of Deicide in Journey into Nyx, and the latest is Fate Reforged's Crux of Fate. the only reason Khans isn't the last point to start the age is because, from a player's perspective, there were little-to-no strong ties between its story and its cards beyond legendary creatures and Sarkhan, whereas Fate had a very clear "story card".

“Telling stories” is not the biggest flag of the Sixth Age.

Dragon Pose Misinterpretation

New 14 Jun 2016 Asked by iracreasman 71 Comments

You chose the one art I could find that shows Bolas shaped like a quadruped. Based upon every other art I can find of Bolas and Ugin, I genuinely thought they were meant to be bipedal humanoid dragons. Even ignoring his original art, Crux of Fate, Wit's End, and both his planeswalker cards make Bolas' forelimbs look like arms. I'm not trying to be contrary, I'm just confused.

People seem to be confusing “can be posed like a humanoid” with “humanoid”. The Internet is filled with people who dress up their pet and stand them on their hind legs to look like a little person. That doesn’t make them humanoid. Yes, Bolas has often been posed in a humanoid pose. I keep acknowledging that. My point is that a dragon is not humanoid no matter how often you pose them like one. Now there are Dragon people that occasionally show up in fantasy. Dungeons & Dragons has some. They are human-sized and have definitive arms and legs but have dragon features. Those are “dragon humanoids”. That is not what Bolas is. He’s an actual full/sized dragon.

Crux of Fate Cycle?

Now that the FRF full spoiler is out, wasn't Crux of Fate supposed to be a cycle?

Nope. It was never created to be part of a cycle.

Sarkhan's Decision

New 06 Jan 2015 Asked by ilikedirts 28 Comments

in "crux of fate" is Sarkhan literally deciding to destroy all non dragon life on tarkir???

No, I was just making a joke in my comic contrasting the story to the literal rules text. The “dragon vs. non-dragon” represents the two future paths Sarkhan has to choose between.

Plane-Shifted Theme Likelihood

New 05 Dec 2014 Asked by popey13666-blog 19 Comments

Given that the last block (Time Spiral) that centred around time had a middle set (Planar Chaos) with plane-shifted cards and we've already seen Crux of Fate (whilst not atypical still Damnation-esque), could we see a plane-shifted sub-theme for Fate Reforged?

I wouldn’t hold your breath.
