Crucible of Worlds

Space-themed Set Possibility

New 23 Aug 2021 Asked by aguilamagica 38 Comments

Do you think it's possible to have a space-flavored set that is NOT sci-fi? I think of the art of Time Reversal and Crucible of Worlds.

It’s possible, but I think you’re fighting expectation.

Rules on Modal Land Abilities

New 16 Sep 2020 Asked by gabrielbdoc-blog 29 Comments

Hey Mark, got a question about the new Modal Lands like Riverglide Pathway, if I have Crucible of Worlds can I play either side from the grave or only the "face" side?

Cards that let you play them let you play either side.

Use of Cards from Graveyard

New 05 Sep 2020 Asked by dimorrow 42 Comments

Might have missed it but can you use crucible of worlds, Muldrotha, etc to play the land side of MDFC from the graveyard?

Only if the front side of the MDFC is a land (like the dual lands). EDIT: Crucible of Worlds does work because if something lets you play/cast something out of the graveyard, you can play/cast either side.

Spike Card List

New 24 Nov 2017 Asked by tidalslimshady 40 Comments

Spike is supposed to be able to get cards previously banned? Your list on your faq has none of the unbanned commander cards. From what i can tell your missing Protean Hulk, Kokusho, the Evening Star, Staff of Domination, Riftsweeper, Crucible of Worlds, Test of Endurance, Beacon of Immortaility

Anything ever banned officially in Commander counts.

Graveyard Land Return

New 03 Jun 2017 Asked by bloodstonegoth 48 Comments

I was extremely surprised to find out that there has never been a card that returns a land from the graveyard onto the battlefield, except for that one commander. Why?

You might want to check out a card called Crucible of Worlds. It was an artifact designed by the community for the second “You Make the Card”.

Kaladesh Impressions

New 31 Dec 2016 Asked by piogre 20 Comments

My favorite thing in Magic in 2016 was pulling a Crucible of Worlds from my very first Kaladesh pack in the pre-release. My second favorite was drafting the set. Maro, I want to take a moment to say that while I agree with many of the grievances about the current standard (not enough good answers being the biggest), I definitely think Kaladesh itself is a really cool set, and in my opinion you should feel vindicated for your "The Awesome Set" hype.

I’m very happy with how Kaladesh both turned out and was received.

Inventions Flavour

New 01 Oct 2016 Asked by lynks9-blog 34 Comments

On Flavour of inventions: It's worth pointing out that the bar isn't insanely high to get reprinted. Both crucible of worlds and rings of brighthearth have had some pretty significant re-flavouring so as to fit kaladesh.

We’re willing to bend flavor a bit to get cards to work.

Old-Border Planeswalker Possibility

New 28 Oct 2015 Asked by vince-mcmuffin 28 Comments

would it be possible to do a judge foil planeswalker in old-border style? i know it was done with Crucible of Worlds but i'm wondering if a planeswalker would work.

New printing requires the new frame so I don’t think we can print old frames any more.

Favorite YMTC

New 15 Mar 2013 Asked by icantseeyourtoes 6 Comments

which of the past YMtC was your favorite? mine has to be Crucible of Worlds

The Johnny in me loves Crucible of Words, but Mr. Babycakes (Forgotten Ancient) will always have a warm place in my heart.

Graveyard Land Concept

New 16 Feb 2013 Asked by nvinnyc 2 Comments

For the next graveyard set, what about a land that could be played from the graveyard? Like you had Crucible of Worlds in play. Perhaps it would have some other (mana) cost to do so. Or it could come into play tapped. Or it could only be played from the graveyard!?!

EDIT: Tumblr’s acting up. The question: If Counterspell came back would it be common or uncommon? It would probably be an uncommon which is what rarity it was the last time it was printed in an expert expansion.

Appreciating Maligned Cards

New 02 Dec 2012 Asked by floydmcmondo 12 Comments

Threshold, Madness, Hellbent; Ensnaring Bridge, Crucible of Worlds; reanimate decks. One with Nothing is far from useless for a creative player. I own good Rares passed over by others in draft for a better in-colour card, and a chance to win, so wasted money on a bad Rare isn’t a universal argument. Power players use fewer cards. Many won’t use 80% of 10,000+ printed cards. Why focus on one card? I use a wider variety of cards and like many maligned cards. I love Leveler too. Thank you.

Agreed. And I too love Leveler. As a friend, of course.

Reanimating Planeswalkers

New 14 Aug 2012 Asked by stackweaver 13 Comments

Excluding Sorin, Lord of Innistrad and Sun Titan there are no cards that reanimate planeswalkers(as far as I know). Every other permanent type can be reanimated with effects ranging from Argivian Restoration and Replenish to Crucible of Worlds(and obviously Reanimate itself). I am wondering if a card that says "return target planeswalker card in your graveyard to the battlefield" could ever be printed. I mean ultimately is it really that much more broken than turn three Karn Liberated in Modern?

Why don’t planeswalkers have cards that let us avoid mana costs like every other permanent? Um, because we’ve gotten smarter.

Card Name Impact

New 27 May 2012 Asked by sniffnoy 11 Comments

"Forgotten Ancient"? "Vanish into Memory"? No wonder anyone only remembers Crucible of Worlds! Obviously next time names like those should be stricken from the ballot.

Funny.   I’m glad the audience passed on Crucible of Amnesia.

Recallable Card Impact

New 27 May 2012 Asked by cathal21-blog 0 Comments

Have you considered that the reason Vanish into Memory was less recallable because people who weren't invested in it 7 years ago have no single wrapup thread to reflect on it?

Vanish Into Memory isn’t that recallable because it wasn’t all that interesting of a card. Forgotten Ancient was cool if a little on the weak side (the public didn’t choose the most powerful option) and Crucible of Worlds was a bonafide hit. 2 out of 3 is far better than most Magic designers. For those unaware, the above three cards were all made by public voting through something called “You Make The Card”.

You Make The Card

New 26 May 2012 Asked by therandomvillain 5 Comments

How about the "You make the card" coming back? Last i remember we made Crucible of Worlds, a pretty awesome card.

The last “You Make The Card” card was actually Vanish Into Memory which apparently has. (The first was Forgotten Ancient and the second Crucible of Worlds.)
