Leveler

Isolation of 'Level up' Keyword

New 17 Jul 2024 Asked by oooblyjooblies 3 Comments

Is it possible to use the 'Level up' keyword in isolation, without the Leveler card frame and its associated baggage? I.e. A creature with Level up that, in its rules text, attains bonuses referring to the number of Level counters it has.

I’ll say it would be unlikely.

Why can't City-scape leveler destroy lands?

When game play and flavor fight, game play tends to win.

Momir Basic Regret

I, too, have drawn Phage on turn 8 in Momir Basic. If you've got the win, don't make a creature. Leveler at 5 is pretty unlucky as well.

Note that in the game was playing, it was my first game of Momir Basic ever so I was unaware. In addition, because it was live action Momir Vig, each slot was limited to a number of cards. I never would have guessed the creator of it would have had Phage in the 8 slot as it just makes the person lose.

Appreciating Maligned Cards

Threshold, Madness, Hellbent; Ensnaring Bridge, Crucible of Worlds; reanimate decks. One with Nothing is far from useless for a creative player. I own good Rares passed over by others in draft for a better in-colour card, and a chance to win, so wasted money on a bad Rare isn’t a universal argument. Power players use fewer cards. Many won’t use 80% of 10,000+ printed cards. Why focus on one card? I use a wider variety of cards and like many maligned cards. I love Leveler too. Thank you.

Agreed. And I too love Leveler. As a friend, of course.

Future Card Mechanisms

Can we expect to see more "Stifle hungry" cards (Phyrexian Dreadnought, Eater of Days, Leveler, et.c) in the future?

We don’t do as many as we used to but I’m sure we’ll do one every once in a while.
