Courser of Kruphix

Future Sight Effects Oversight

New 27 Jun 2023 Asked by stormtide-leviathan 22 Comments

I really enjoyed the walkthrough of the history of future sight effects in your article! You excluded what I'd consider an important subset in the land-based ones though, like oracle of mul daya and courser of kruphix. Was this purposeful, or just a mistake?

Just an oversight.

Preference in Card Templating

New 21 Jun 2022 Asked by elmarcodepico 40 Comments

Hey Mark! A little feedback on Future Sight effect templating. I vastly, vastly prefer the old template where you play with the top card of your library revealed (Future Sight, Oracle of Mul Daya, Courser of Kruphix). I find it annoying to play with the new template (Bolas's Citadel, Mystic Forge, Augur of Autumn), since it always leads to one player staring at the other as they check the top of their library over and over and over.

The reason we prefer it is to keep hidden information in the game. If my opponent always sees the top card of my library, they (eventually) know everything in my hand, and that’s just less fun gameplay.

Land card and MDFC Interactions

So an effect put a land card from your hand would work with the MDFC's; however, they do not work with Courser of Kruphix ?

In your hand and on top of your library, a MDFC is its front side (the one with the single triangle symbol in its upper left corner).

Color Identity in White

New 05 Apr 2020 Asked by kream45 66 Comments

Verge Rangers is a worse Courser of Kruphix, Cartographer’s Hawk is a worse rampant growth. Is White's new color identity to be worse than anything green does?

White is primary in some effects and secondary in others. Yes, it does its secondary effects worse than the primary color. That’s why it’s secondary. : )

Revealing Hidden Information

New 11 Dec 2014 Asked by frogmite 30 Comments

What's your take on cards that continuously reveal hidden information like Courser of Kruphix? I would guess some of it is fine, but do you think there should be a limit?

It is a rare delicacy to be used sparingly.

Theros Block Regret

In today's Latest Developments column, Sam Stoddard called putting Thoughtseize and Courser of Kruphix in Theros block a mistake. Is this view held by design, development, or both?

R&D, as a whole, feels it was a mistake.

Format Defining Cards Preference

New 07 Aug 2014 Asked by juananddone 26 Comments

Would you rather the format defining cards be more new stuff (Elspeth Sun's Champion, Courser of Kruphix, Sphinx's Revelation) or older powerful reprints (Thoughtseize, Mutavault, Lightning Bolt)?

A mix although leaning toward new stuff. Old stuff doesn’t allow for as much exploration.

Lightning Bolt Return?

New 10 May 2014 Asked by spoonyaardvark 10 Comments

Will we be getting Lightning Bolt back anytime soon? Now that there are creatures like Brimaz and Courser of Kruphix that are good creatures out of bolt range, it doesn't seem to overpowered. Flame Slash would also be awesome to see again.

I’m not saying Lightning Bolt will never return but it would be insanely powerful if brought back to Standard.
