Arbor Elf

Core Set Contents

Yesterday you asked what parts of the core set we would like to see return, here's my answer. I would like a simple box set which contains playsets of 5-10 utility cards which are not in standard-legal block sets. Here's an example for a BFZ-SOI-KLD-AHK Set: Relic of Progenitus, Hero's Downfall, Dissolve, Searing Spear, Pacifism and Arbor elf. None of these cards fit with the feel of the worlds we are currently visiting, but would improve standard by adding a little graveyard hate and removal.

Graveyard hate missing is not because of the lack of a core set.

Mana Creatures Comparison

Do you consider "Untap target land" effects on creatures (Arbor Elf, Voyaging Satyr, Ley Druid) stronger or weaker than straight mana providing creatures?

They’re very similar.

Black Ramp Potential

New 09 Oct 2013 Asked by escherichiacole 23 Comments

Would a black version of Arbor Elf (untap target swamp) fit in blacks current colour pie? It seems to fit their ramping-but-with-swamps theme. Personally, I would like to see more ramping in black.

It’s close. I could see us shifting in that direction if we decided this was something we wanted to push more on black.

Complex Commons

In response to the person asking about NWO, here are some commons that are not only in competitive decks right now, but also very complex in most situations and lead to a lot of decisions: Doomed Traveler, Tragic Slip, Delver of Secrets, Faithless Looting, Duress, Fog, Mulch, Young Wolf, Arbor Elf, Smite, Zhur-Taa Druid, Negate, Farseek, Goblin Electromancer, Avacyn's Pilgrim, Pilfered Plans, Cloudfin Raptor, Grisly Salvage, Thought Scour, Centaur Healer, Elvish Visionary, Pillar of Flame, etc.

Arbor vs Llanowar Elf

Would you consider Arbor Elf to be "strictly better" than Llanowar Elf?

No, the cards each have their strengths and weakness and neither one is strictly better than the other.

Llanowar Elves Placement

New 14 May 2012 Asked by miles--away 2 Comments

If you had to re-do Magic, would you put Llanowar Elves in red and while keeping things like Arbor Elf in green? It seems like bards would fill the role that Llanowar Elves do more flavorfully for red.

The way we separate mana production is that green gets permanent production - that is creatures or enchantments that can continually produce mana or land fetching that permanently adds mana to the battlefield. Red’s mana production is one-shot.Usually red produces more mana but just one time.
