Acorn Harvest

Changed Defense Flashback Cost

New 09 Sep 2021 Asked by pedrofeliperocha 43 Comments

Hi, Mark. We used to have spells whose flashback cost was lower than the CMC, like the famous Acorn Harvest and Deep Analysis. This helped to encourage some super fun graveyard shenanigans, like Roar of the Wurm in UG Madnes… but this isn’t something we see nowadays. What happened? The philosofy changed?

They tend to cause play design issues.

Squirrel Humor Observation

New 08 Sep 2019 Asked by ihaveakramp 41 Comments

I think part of the reason why so many people see squirrels as jokes is because a lot of the older squirrel cards were given a humorous treatment. Cards like "Acorn Harvest," "Nut Collector," and "Chatter of the Squirrel" just sound silly, even though there is nothing weird with them mechanically.

I think Squirrels lend themselves towards humor.Three squirrels walk into a bar… - 🐿

How do you feel about Acorn Harvest?

I’m pro-Acorn Harvest. I’m also the person who designed it. Those two facts might be related.

Mishra's Toy Factory Mechanics

New 22 Dec 2014 Asked by nobthehobbit 16 Comments

So even though Acorn Catapult doesn't immediately generate tokens upon coming into play, Mishra's Toy Factory can still be used to cast it? And can Mishra's Toy Factory be used to cast Myr Battlesphere (or, say, an Equipment with Living weapon) if there's a Torpor Orb or Hushwing Gryff in play? Can Mishra's Toy Factory be used to cast any creature if Genesis Chamber is in play?

Oops. I confused two cards. You can use Mishra’s Factory to activate Acorn Catapult or to cast Acorn Harvest. You may not use it to cast Acorn Catapult as it does not directly create tokens when cast.
