March of theMachine Pairings

New 24 Nov 2023 Asked by brromo 48 Comments

To my understanding the March of the Machiene Tag-Team cards were suposed to be "Unconventinal parings, showing the desperation of the plane", yet on Amonkhet, Djeru, Hazoret, the Scarab God, & the Locust God fighting together, the card is Djeru and Hazoret, a pair that previously worked together. Did set design need a red-white legend? Was the no good ideas for a cross factional parring? I have the simmiler problems with Errant and Giada, Kogla and Yidaro, & Zimone and Dina.

We tried to make pairings that made for fun designs. It wasn’t crucial that every pairing involved characters that had never worked together before.

Gods Not Eternalized

Why weren't the Locust God and the Scarab God eternalized and brought to Ravnica?

I don’t know. Bolas didn’t feel like it.

Birthday Singleton Deck Fun

New 12 Aug 2017 Asked by flamepenguin3 57 Comments

Maro! Today is my birthday! Instead of trivia I wanted to share my modern fnm experience tonight. I played a singleton deck composed solely of modern legal masterpiece series cards (60 cards plus 15 card sideboard). I only won 1 match but it was the most fun I've had playing Magic in awhile. At the end of the last game I had Omniscience, Hazoret, and The Locust God out. Talk about a board state!

That sounds fun. Happy Birthday!

Locust God Creativity Misconception

How does the Locust God represent creativity?

It doesn’t. Not ever blue/red creature has to be creative.

Transformer Tokens Clarified

New 03 Aug 2017 Asked by rewm8 25 Comments

A follow-up to the grimlock & mishra's toy workshop question: do you need to use the workshop to make the Transformers toy tokens? If I use, say, Ransack Transformers to represent the Locust God's insect tokens just because I wanna, will Grimlock's Autobot form boost those tokens?

The exception for Mishra’s Toy Workshop is that it specifically instructs that the token creatures be toys, so no, you can’t just affect any token by toy representation.

Masterpiece Discovery Joy

New 17 Jul 2017 Asked by greatglasslynx 60 Comments

I opened my first Masterpiece this weekend - the Locust God - and I'll be darned if I didn't feel like a kid on Christmas or Hanukkah. As an adult, a sense of wonder is hard to come by, but I rediscovered my inner kid. I may have even squealed. Well done, WotC.

Locust God's Haste

New 15 Jul 2017 Asked by fluffybluegurl 46 Comments

Hey Mark, just have a quick question. With The Locust God, why do the tokens have haste? I get the flying part, but haste seems to push it a bit far. I've been playing with it in EDH and the haste on the tokens makes it feel like he may just be pushed a bit too much. Just curious about the decision about that. Thanks for being awesome, and congrats on a successful new set release!

The haste is the only part of the card that’s red and not blue.

Hi MaRo! Just finished my HOU prerlease. Did you put that Fraying Sanity prerelease foil in my kit? Now I can replace the Sphinx Tutalage in my old mill deck! A big thank you for the funnest prerelease so far. I think you also put The Locust God in one of my packs.

I thought you’d enjoy the cards. : )

God Synergy Disappointment

New 22 Jun 2017 Asked by levi-lottinville-blog 45 Comments

I'll admit I'm disappointed that the scarab god doesn't play with the synergy I saw between scorpion god and locust god. But I like it in a vacuum and be more than happy to build around it.

The Locust God loots and the Scarab God eternalizes (essentially). There’s some synergy.

Locust God's Color

New 20 Jun 2017 Asked by bloodstonegoth 51 Comments

Many Magic the Gathering players ask the question - why is The Locust God blue? What makes him blue flavor-wise?

It makes small flying tokens which red doesn’t do (the haste part is red though) and it’s looting rather than rummaging.
