Karn, Silver Golem

Card Name Uniqueness

New 06 Jun 2023 Asked by thunderweb 52 Comments

Can there be different cards sharing a name?- "Karn, Silver Golem" - Legendary Enchantment- "Karn, Silver Golem" - Legendary Land- "Karn, Silver Golem" - Legendary Instant- "Karn, Silver Golem" - Legendary BattleI suppose you don't plan to do this, but if it ever happens, how will the rules be applied to them?

We have no plans for two different cards (save for some Un-shenanigins) sharing the same name.

Generic Artifacts Promise

I can only be okay with colored artifacts if you promise you'll still make some generic ones for my karn, silver golem edh deck.

There will still be generic ones made.

Iconic Artifacts

New 14 Jun 2018 Asked by crab4communism 41 Comments

you wouldn't consider phyrexian dreadnought an iconic artifact creature? or karn, silver golem? or even solemn simulacrum?

I said there wasn’t an iconic creature type for artifacts not that they’re were iconic artifact creatures. Different uses of “iconic”.

Karn Trivia

Mark, you ignored my wedding birthday, I'll give you a second chance. It is my birthday could you give me any trivia about karn, silver Golem?

Urza made Karn out of silver because it was the one substance that he could send through time. Happy Birthday!

Special Land Possibility

New 21 May 2013 Asked by pretends2know-blog 6 Comments

I play a Karn, Silver Golem Commander deck. I was wondering what are the odds of there being a land that produces colorless mana with a "Relentless Rats" stipulation released some day?

It has a pretty limited application but sure, there’s a chance.

Commander Specific Designs

New 15 May 2013 Asked by hawk7915 3 Comments

Do you ever design a card for a specific Commander? Not just a card that is good in Commander, but a card "Karn, Silver Golem players will love" or a card "just for Animar" or something like that?

I’ve made cards Commander friendly.

Legendary Werewolf Challenge

New 04 Feb 2013 Asked by lowclasshifi-deactivated2016102 15 Comments

I just noticed there wasn't a legendary DFC werewolf. Was there not enough space in the block for one? I'm a huge fan of legendary creatures (Karn, Silver Golem was my first, I got him way back when Urza Block was new), and I was sad that there wasn't a legendary werewolf.

All werewolves in the block were double-faced and we didn’t solve how to make a creature that can switch to and fro legendary without issues arising.

Colorless Basic Land

New 19 Sep 2012 Asked by krishnath 5 Comments

Is there a chance that we will ever see a basic land that taps for one colorless mana? It can be tricky to build a commander deck for a colorless commander (Such as Karn, Silver Golem) without them. On a related note, kudos for the colorless common and uncommon lands these last couple of blocks, they helped a lot. :)

Designers Behind Karn

New 18 Aug 2012 Asked by thesilvernoble 3 Comments

Hi Mark. The mechanic I'd like to see returned is the snow mechanic. My favorite block was the Ice Age block (including Coldsnap!). Being an old-timer, of course, Time Spiral is a close second. My question: Who designed Karn Liberated and Karn, Silver Golem? Karn holds a special place in my heart - my middle name is Karn.

I’m not sure who designed Karn Liberated. My best guess is Ken Nagle as it was his set. I designed Karn, Silver Golem. Also, I designed the character of Karn back when I was one of the two people in charge of the Weatherlight Saga.

Reserved List Loophole

New 29 Jun 2012 Asked by ccgnick 9 Comments

Karn, Silver Golem is on the reserved list, and was reprinted in From the Vault: Relics. What's up with that?

We were trying to see if the audience would let us relax the Reserved List by using a loophole to print premium versions of cards on it. It didn’t go well so now we’ve closed the loophole.
