Simic archetype inspiration

Omg mark I just realized that the reason the simic archetype for bloomburrow is bounce is because it’s FROGS AND THEY JUMP!!! THATS SO SICK!!! As much as I love turtles, they probably would have been focused on +1/+1 counters, and I’d much rather have this archetype that’s radically different from the “standard issue” simic theme. Plus frogs are also cool as heck. High fives all around!

It makes me unbelievably happy to see it not just live up to the worldbuilding and depth I'm used to in a Magic setting, but exceed it. A plane doesn't feel like a plane without it!

I just want to congratulate the team on the bats from Bloomburrow. They were the archetype I was most excited for, and I absolutely love the lore we've got for them - and the way the idea of them seeking balance is represented through both losing AND gaining life is a fantastic synergy of mechanics and flavour. When we originally designed Innistrad, we were tickled by the idea that blue and black created different kinds of Zombies. Blue built them out of parts, ala Frankenstein, where black was more about necromancy. To capture this distinction, we made two characters, brother and sister, that represent each type of Zombie making, and made their core conflict about which is better.Happy 30th Birthday!
