Goblins on Kaladesh

RE: Goblins on Kaladesh. In origins, were the other red goblins (Subterranean Scout, Goblin Glory-Chaser, Goblin Piledriver) not set on Kaladesh either?

All the cards in Magic Origins were set on one of the ten featured worlds (although some reprints might have come from blocks set on other planes; we made sure they looked neutral enough to feel as if they could fit one of the ten).

Goblin Trivia Birthday

New 29 Aug 2015 Asked by vabolo 40 Comments

Greetings Maro! I've been waiting nearly a year to get some Magic Birthday Trivia, so here goes: could I get some fresh, unheard info about either members of my favourite tribe, Goblin Guide or Goblin Piledriver? Many a thanks!

Goblin Guide is another in a long series of 2/2 red creatures (usually Goblins) for a single Red mana with a drawback. Goblin Guide’s drawback came from a land mechanic we had toyed around with and found not worth using as a keyword but felt cool on one card. Happy Birthday!

Whoever decided Goblin Piledriver needed to be in this set is my new best friend. Please give them a high-five for me.

I’m pretty sure that was Sam. I’ll
High five him on Monday if I remember.

Goblin Dynamics

I'd say that your availability to answer so many of our questions is already a great gift, Mark, but since Blogatog has a tradition of birthday trivia, he're my birthday request: can you tell me some trivia about Goblin Piledriver or his newest BFF, Goblin Rabblemaster? Keep up the awesome work on Magic :)

Goblin Piledriver was part of our plan to make Goblins more of an aggressive tribe. It worked. Happy Birthday!

Goblin Piledriver, is there anything stopping a potential reprint?

Um, development. : )

Red Two-Drop

New 05 Jul 2013 Asked by zemyla 13 Comments

Red has a broken two-drop, it's Goblin Piledriver. The cycle is complete.

I’ve never understood the broken cycle as I agree we’ve made a broken red two drop creature.

Goblin Tribe Power Level

New 13 Jun 2013 Asked by reservedtendrils 18 Comments

why goblins as a tribe has been so depowered? before, we had things like goblin matron, goblin lackey, goblin piledriver, warchief and ringleader that made goblins an aggro control deck (paired with mana denial for example), now is a dumb aggro archetype. some love for goblins please?

Mons, is this you? : )

Red Two-Drops

New 19 Mar 2013 Asked by zombielynx21-deactivated2018121 6 Comments

What broken red two-drops, aside from Goblin Piledriver, do you feel you guys have made over the years?

You guys do understand that we never set out to make broken cards.

Broken Two-Drops Ignored

New 19 Mar 2013 Asked by zemyla 9 Comments

The people who keep asking for the cycle of broken two-drops to be completed keep forgetting about Goblin Piledriver. (Also, Arcbound Ravager.)

I’m not sure why any of the broken two-drop red creatures we’ve made never count.

Lord Definition Nuance

New 05 Jul 2012 Asked by sansafro187-blog 2 Comments

R&D's definition of a Lord seems notably different from the typical player definition. If all it takes to be a Lord is encouraging you to play with more of the same creature type in your deck, does that make Goblin Piledriver a Lord too?

My definition was probably a little broader than it should be. For a design purpose, a lord is a card that encourages players to build a deck around that creature type. I agree that the flavor of “a lord” usually wants to make it feel as if it’s improving that creature type in some way.

DotP Animation Choices

New 22 Jun 2012 Asked by iamphrost 1 Comments

So I bought Dotp2013 (the first time I've bought the game) and I'm kind of dissapointed we don't get anything over the top like creatures popping up out of the card and doing battle. I was hoping since there was a limited card pool that it would be more like the Yugioh tv show and I'd be able to see goblin piledriver beat up Garruk's Packleader or something. Any chance this will be in future versions?

We’ve chosen to focus our energies into gameplay over graphics. Obviously we’re making the cards look as great as possible but we’re not doing a lot of animation.

Creature Cycle Completion

New 07 May 2012 Asked by abigail-rytel 5 Comments

Why do people think the broken two-drop creature cycle isn't complete? It started in red with Goblin Piledriver, then went into colorless with Arcbound Ravager, then hit the other four colors as described. Sure, cycles aren't usually printed that way, but you guys know what you're doing.

Every time I bring up Goblin Piledriver, I get “That doesn’t count”. I’m not quite sure why. Only for a goblin deck is my best guess.
