Frontline Medic

Request for Sacrifice to Tithe

New 21 Dec 2020 Asked by poetically-pathos 27 Comments

I agree with a lot of your commentary on White’s lack of counter spelling for color and gameplay. One thing I would like to request is creatures sacrificing to tithe spells. Similar to Frontline Medic or Judge’s Familiar. We’ve seen white get an array of new defensive one drops like selfless savior and this feels right in line. As a creature color rather than a color of instants this feels like a natural bridge. (And remains relevant in EDH even at one mana.)

Again, I, and the color pie, are not the barrier to white taxing and delaying counterspells. I would be fine with creatures that could sacrifice themselves, with mana activation costs, to add a small tax to spells.

Standard relevant guild mechanic cards: Ghor Clan Rampager (bloodrush), Firefist Striker, Frontline Medic (battalion), Rakdos Cackler (unleash), Varolz the Scar Striped (gives scavenge), Mizzium Mortars, Cyclonic Rift (Overload), Rootborn Defenses, Trostani, Selesnya's Voice (populate), Blind Obedience (extort, borderline). Evolve, Cipher and Detain have not produced standard-quality cards.

Experiment One (with evolve) has seen Standard play.

Frontline Medic Ability

Why isn't the taxing ability of Frontline Medic on an Orzhov card? Seriously!

If you want to play the monowhite card in your Orzhov deck, I promise not to tell anyone.

Frontline Medic Critique

Why is Frontline Medic so hot-glue-guny?

Because the second part was necessary for development to help keep the environment balanced and sometimes adding that stuff in isn’t as elegant as one would wish.

Frontline Medic Evaluation

Frontline Medic is the first time white gets a 3/3 for 2W, and with two awesome abilities. Thoughts? I think white gets very efficient small creatures because it shouldn't get efficient medium ones.

That is true for white’s default. In a card game with thousands of cards though, we always deviate slightly from the defaults from time to time.
