Dryad Militant

Color Design Challenge

New 21 May 2018 Asked by starlightofpenguins 44 Comments

Point of order: every colour has had at least one 2 power one drop. The blue one was Phantasmal Bear (dies when targeted). So it should be possible, at least in theory, to complete the Rakdos Cackler / Dryad Militant "cycle" - you would just need to make four bluebrid ones have drawbacks. (And having ten such creatures extant would be good for cube building options)

Monocolors having clean one-drop 2-power designs (and I would argue not every color has great designs in this space) and those things all existing in hybrid space is not the same thing.

Mono White Dryad Request

New 23 Apr 2018 Asked by armadagon 25 Comments

"drcthulhuobeliskdankenstein-blog asked: Great work with Dominaria! What are the chances of a mono white Dryad Militant type card for us commander players? Dryads are mostly green." I believe this person was asking for a mono-white card with Dryad Militant's effect.

White normally exiles cards in graveyards but usually not proactively. It can as a bend.

Great work with Dominaria! What are the chances of a mono white Dryad Militant type card for us commander players?

Dryads are mostly green.

Hybrid Mana Usage

New 26 Nov 2017 Asked by samu27 98 Comments

If I have half a green mana and half a white mana can I cast dryad militant?

Yes, you can. Half a white mana and half a green mana can cast a green/white hybrid card costing one.

Requesting Green Creatures

Well then could you please print some 2/1s for G with no drawback? The only one right now is Dryad Militant, which can be a drawback depending on the deck.

Green’s #2 but a distant #2.

Commander Color Quirk

But Maro, I can't play Dryad Militant in my monogreen Commander deck so it's not really a green 2/1 for C is it? ;)

My buttons are so easy to press. : )

Commander Rules Oddity

New 13 Jul 2013 Asked by bassimelwakil 17 Comments

I agree with your views on Commander color identity. It's completely unintuitive that a mono-green commander cannot play Noble Heirarch, nor Dryad Militant, nor Tezzeret's Gambit, but *can* play a golem with affinity for swamps or Gauntlet of Might.

Another quirky side-effect: “T, Pay one life: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool” is allowed in every deck. “T, Pay one life: Add W, U, B, R or G to your mana pool” is not allowed except in five-color commander decks. One template everyone can use it and one almost no one can.

Green 2/1 Creature

You said a few days ago that green has a G 2/1 with no drawbacks. I couldn't find it. What card are you talking about?

The card I was referring to is Dryad Militant from Return to Ravnica.

City of Ass Mechanics

New 09 Dec 2012 Asked by lordgrac 6 Comments

You recently answered that someone can use two half manas generated from City of Ass to cast a Dryad Militant. Follow up question: what if one of those half manas was white while the other was green? Could he still cast Dryad Militant?

Yep.

Un-set Mana Query

New 09 Dec 2012 Asked by mrmehayo 19 Comments

Un-set rules question: If I have 2 City of Ass in play and tap 1 for 1 1/2 white mana, and tap the other for 1 1/2 green mana, may I combine the 2 half mana to play a Dryad Militant?

Yes.

Combo Play Concerns

New 22 Sep 2012 Asked by nickdangel-blog 4 Comments

as a combo player thanks for make my life even harder. Could you print something good for us? or the days when we could play with no creatures are over? Past in flames was very good, then, dryad militant... really? i know that you are improving creatures, but this.. there's no balance, just like in the early magic

A combo player is not the opposite of a player that plays creatures. Many great combo decks throughout history had creatures as a key part of their combo.
