Affinity Mechanic Possibility

New 16 Jun 2019 Asked by rtladnumber4 49 Comments

Hi Mark so this question came up earlier, "leigonlord asked: could you theoretically put affinity for instants on an instant. i dont expect you to actually do it but would it work?" "I’m not sure “you control” looks st the stack. Even if it did, it’s such a narrow circumstance where it would matter. It might technically work though." Counterflux from RTR has "Counter target spell you don't control. Overload" so you control definitely applies to the stack. Just FYI

Good point.

On Counterspells

Would a counter spell like counterflux be a soft counter because it can't be countered

It’s a hard counter (your opponent’s spells are the subset you’re supposed to use Counterspells on almost all the time).

Resolve Spell Query

New 28 Mar 2013 Asked by yamijoey 12 Comments

Could we see some cards like "Resolve target Spell" or whatever at Mythic? It feels in the same space as Mindbreak Trap and Counterflux's Overload, and doesn't directly reference the stack. It doesn't feel too complex, and at Mythic the people who don't understand it won't see it much.

I’ve been playing Magic for twenty years am I’m not sure what exactly  what a “Resolve target spell” does.

Counterflux Color Reasoning

Why is Counterflux red?

Traditionally red is the color that gets spells with “can’t be countered”. It’s also part of a cycle where we relax restrictions a little.

Social Media Card

No buildup or discussion about your social media card? While I definitely enjoy seeing new cards however possible (Please don't stop doing social media previews!) I feel as if it was almost a wasted opportunity to simply say, "Here's my preview", without making any comment on the card at all.

There wasn’t much to say about it. I did do a little puzzle ahead of time on Twitter because that format lends itself better to a quick interchange. Counterflux was designed during development (as was the entire cycle). I know it was made with eternal formats in mind, particularly dealing with storm, which has been a bit of a bane for eternal formats.

Izzet Cycle Placement

New 13 Sep 2012 Asked by nihilcredo-blog-blog 3 Comments

Is Counterflux the Izzet part of the uncounterable rare cycle, or is it separate from that? It would be the only card in the cycle with its guild's keyword, and uncounterability would make sense on it on its own,

Yes, it’s the Izzet part of the cycle. It has overload because the development team (the uncounterable cycle was made in development) thought it would make the spell cooler.

Counterflux vs. Storm

Counterflux is a perfect anti-storm card. Was this on purpose?

I never deny useful things in Vintage.
