Is Burning Wish now a break in red?

More bend than break.

Contraptions and Secondary Decks

New 05 Aug 2019 Asked by nalthian 35 Comments

how were contraptions recieved? do you think that there's a possiblity of a secondary deck coming to black border? we already can pull cards into the game from outside of our decks (burning wish, etc), it doesnt seem like it breaks too many rules.

Silver border tests out new game design areas which black border can later adopt. I don’t think black border is ready for second deck just yet,

AWOL Card Mechanics

New 25 Apr 2018 Asked by casofsas 21 Comments

Un question, if someone AWOL's one of my cards can I use a card like burning wish to get it back?

Nope. It’s gone. It’s in a zone it can’t leave until the game is over.

Casting Contraptions Possibility

New 15 Dec 2017 Asked by tomasaki19 24 Comments

Is it possible to cast a contraption using As Foretold after putting it in hand via Burning Wish? Or is it impossible to cast a contraption because they can only be "assembled"?

Contraptions can only be assembled. They don’t even have a cost.

Could a wish card (like Burning Wish) bring a contraption in to a game?

No.

Exploring 'Outside the Game'

New 04 Apr 2016 Asked by thomeyis 16 Comments

I think by "outside the game" the question-er was referring to things like Burning Wish which actually grab cards from no zone at all. Any chance of that space being explored more?

We can explore it some. The fact that it’s limited to the sideboard in tournaments makes it extra tricky.

ARFTFGFZ Explained

New 02 Jul 2015 Asked by 2muchinfo-deactivated20181127 30 Comments

Is the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone the same as the cards that I own that aren't in my deck or sideboard? Can I use Burning Wish for a card in the ARFTFGFZ?

No. Cards in that zone can never get back into the game they were removed from. It’s in the name of the zone! : )

Player Personality

New 31 Mar 2015 Asked by gonzoron 16 Comments

In your Judgment podcast, you mentioned the Wizards' Invitational where you prepared to Burning Wish for Mana Clash for style points if you needed 1 more damage. You said this was proof you were a Johnny, not a Spike. Isn't that more of a Timmy moment?

It’s Timmy/Johnny.

Alt-Win vs Synergies

New 25 Apr 2014 Asked by s--black 36 Comments

Also, I respectfully think you've missed the point in the question about "alt win conditions." The issue as I see it is not one of alt-wins (Battle of Wits) but one of card designs that suggest or demand specific synergies or deck construction. Recent examples include Delver of Secrets and Birthing Pod. Older examples include everything from High Tide to Burning Wish. In recent years, more and more Constructed cards promote "multicolor goodstuff" building over synergistic, distinct archetypes.

Aren’t devotion decks major players in Standard right now?

Sorcery with Flash Idea

New 30 Aug 2013 Asked by jeanlucncoelho 8 Comments

How about making a counter that is a sorcery and has flash? Then you could get it with burning wish.

Just because we can do something doesn’t always mean we should. Sorcery with flash would cause a lot of confusion especially when the game has instants.
