Whip of Erebos

Legendary Type Complexity

"The rules can’t handle a permanent on the battlefield being an instant or sorcery." Okay, fair enough. How about if/when on a "Legendary Enchantment Artifact Creature"? We've gotten 3 of those one card with the original Theros God weapons(ex; Whip of Erebos or Bident of Thassa) but now let's get all 4!

If. I don’t know that could fit on a type line, especially if the creature needs a creature type. “Legendary Enchantment Creature - God” barely fit.

Mechanics Return Likelihood

What is more likely to return, flashback or unearth? We've seen both effects on individual cards recently (flip Jace, and Whip of Erebos respectively) so I can tell you guys still enjoy the effects.

Flashback is a bit easier to use than Unearth but I expect both to return.

Booster Pack Order

Isn't the order of cards in boosters anticlimactic? I just opened a pack ending on Whip of Erebos, foil Elspeth, Mountain, add card and thought "Meh, no token" and that seems like the wrong emotion to come from that pack. If movies are to go by, the add should come first (trailers), then land (opening wide shot), then commons are the exposition and uncommons, mythics/rares and foils perform act 2 and 3. Or is there a deeper reason for the order?

If a premium Elspeth can’t get you excited, there’s bigger issues afoot. : )

Naming God Weapons

New 02 Sep 2013 Asked by aria-inc 18 Comments

Why were the names of the god's weapons dumbed down in their card form? They have such cool names and mastix (the whip) has me absolutely blown away in flavor. But instead it being called something along the lines of: Mastix, coil of eternity, it seems were gonna get "whip of erebos". That really doesn't seem to live up to the flavor quality that is clearly bleeding out of every pore of this set.

The artifacts did have their name originally and they didn’t fit. The name alone though didn’t connect it to the god that owned it and not everyone reads the Planeswalker’s Guide so we decided that connecting it to the proper god was more important. Remember that we have to rely on the cards to tell as much of the story as possible.
