The Mimeoplasm

Muraganda Themes

New 08 Oct 2017 Asked by tehwerr 34 Comments

Is it possible we will see muraganda (home of imperiosour, The mimeoplasm, etc) WITHOUT the vanilla matters? Maybe with the petroglyphs as a offbeat rare?

Muraganda does not have to be tied to “Vanilla matters”. One card in Future Sight of a possible future does not require prehistoric world has to have that mechanical theme.

Naming Monstrous Entities

With "The Scorpion God," "The Gitrog Monster," and previous cards like "The Unspeakable" and "The Mimeoplasm," will we see a trend going forwards of cards that use this naming convention for an alien or monstrous purpose?

The Yes.

We've actually seen four cards from Muraganda. Mark, please don't let people forget that the Mimeoplasm is from there too!

The land of T-Rexes for arms. Never forget! : )

Cipher Mechanic Limitations

Mark. My birthday was on the 21st and I've been trying everyday for my trivia. Anything on the mimeoplasm, the dimir, the golgari, or at the very least any random trivia?

We literally ran out of mechanics that worked with Cipher so we made less cards with it than originally planned.Happy Belated Birthday! (Sorry for the delay.)

Maro, do you know who designed The Mimeoplasm? It might be my favorite creature of all time.

I believe (but this is a guess) Ken Nagle designed it.

Oversized Foils Feedback

New 18 Oct 2012 Asked by bioticplaneswalker 7 Comments

Can I ask what the deal is with the over-sized foils? Nearly every person I talk to doesn't like them for the simple reason that they just want regular sized foils they can run in a deck. For last year's Commander decks for example, I know everybody was irritated that they didn't have regular foils of their generals and are miffed that Commander's Arsenal seems to have foils of them, (or at least The Mimeoplasm) meaning they have to pay even more to have them. What's your opinion of them?

If the data said no one liked them, we’d stop making them tomorrow. That isn’t what the data says. Remember, we have no reason to want to make things that aren’t wanted by some subsection of our player base. Magic’s past is littered with things we tried that the players didn’t want. We have no problem abandoning unpopular things. Just remember that any one player’s anecdotal evidence is not the same as extensive market research.

The Mimeoplasm Origin

New 06 Aug 2012 Asked by keefeoplasm-blog 3 Comments

Who designed The Mimeoplasm? And how would one go about getting a copy signed?

I believe it was designed by Scott Larabee, the Pro Tour tournament manager. If you sent me the card, I could ask him to sign it for you. Just remember the self-addressed stamped envelope.

Naming with 'The'

New 15 May 2012 Asked by thewormturns 4 Comments

By my count there are only 13 cards in MTG who's name starts with "the". All of them seem like clunky names to my ears, and feel like beginning with "The" is the culprit. The intersting thing is none of them are Legenday lands, which to me is the only card type it might make sense. It is not an old style either, as "The Mimeoplasm" was released in 2011. What is your take on these names?

We tend to avoid “The” in names because of the clunkiness issue. I believe most of the recent uses of it were on legendary creatures where it makes a little more sense.

Since you are our unofficial "How do I pronounce ___" guide. How do I pronounce The Mimeoplasm? Is it the Mime-o-plasm, or Mim-E-O-plasm? Or something else entirely.

Mim-E-O-Plasm.
