Sublime Archangel

Mythic to Rare Ratio

New 16 Apr 2013 Asked by prophet86 12 Comments

What is the approximate ratio of a specific mythic to a specific rare? i.e. for every Sublime Archangel there is X number of Thragtusk. I'd like to make a cube that gets this ratio correct. It's difficult to figure this out since they share a slot in the packs.

In a large set, there are 53 rares and 15 mythic rares. In a small set there are 35 rares and 10 mythic rares.  The rares appear twice on the sheet while the mythic rares appear once. For example, if you perfectly opened 121 boosters of a large set, you would get two of each rare and one of each mythic rare.

Sublime Archangel Syntax

Is there any particular reason why Sublime Archangel has the two lines: "Exalted" and "Other creatures you control have exalted" as opposed to just "Creatures you control have exalted"? Is there a rules reason or is that just what is decided is the best or easiest to understand way of doing a card with a feature like that?

We’ve learned through trial and error that it’s the easiest way for players to understand it.

Dragon Design Approach

If the reason dragons are included in every set is because they're the most-demanded creature type, then how come nearly every one that Wizards makes is overcosted and unplayable? As compared to, say, angels -- most of the angels printed have use in constructed (Restoration Angel, Sublime Archangel, Angel of Serenity, etc.)

Perhaps the target audience of dragons isn’t the tournament player.  Also, we have made a few constructed dragons over the years. For example, Kai Budde became world champion with one (Covetous Dragon).

Feedback on Previews

I hope you understand why it's frustrating at the moment seeing both Krenko and Sublime Archangel being previewed at the same time - Krenko is a 4 mana goblin without haste while angel immediately gives out exalted to all creatures for 4 mana; red needs all the help it can get while white and blue already has a ton of great cards; Krenko needs a lot of good goblins (at least 3 legacy goblins have to return) around him to work while angel will fit in perfectly in any current deck.

Not to sound like a broken record but - not every card is made for every player. I’ve gotten way more positive feedback on Krenko than I have on Sublime Angel. Not every card has to be seen through the tournament scene lens. You haven’t seen all the cards yet for Magic 2013. Can we please wait to condemn the set as being bad for red constructed cards until after we’ve revealed all the cards?
