Deathtouch Functionality

New 07 Nov 2016 Asked by lazcarno 39 Comments

"Does deathtouch have enough design space to be evergreen? It kind of feels redundant on things with power greater than 3." "Deathtouch means something on medium sized creatures." I don't dispute this, but can you explain the function of deathtouch on, say, a 6/6, as with Grave Titan? Under what circumstances is that meant to be relevant?

Usually deathtouch on a giant creature is more for flavor that gameplay functionality.

Card Design Trivia

Hi Mark, it's my birthday today, so I was hoping I could have some trivia on my favourite card tragic slip or my second favourite card grave titan, and thanks for making such a fantastic game for me to spend too much money on.

Tragic Slip’s Morbid effect was originally “Destroy target creature” but I changed it to “Target creature gets -13/-13” to parallel the original effect and get two more 13’s onto Innistrad block cards. Happy Birthday!

Black's Deathtouch Titans

Why does black keep getting deathtouch on massive creatures (Grave Titan, Soul of Innistrad, Silumgar)?

Flavor.

Deathtouch on Big Creatures

New 24 Jun 2014 Asked by djunknown0 31 Comments

Both Grave Titan and Soul of Innistrad have Deathtouch. On such large creatures Deathtouch doesn't feel like a big bonus like it does on small creatures. Small creatures can trade up with it, but 6/6 creatures can win or trade in most combats (even with multiple blockers). Do the black creatures in these cycles get stuck with Deathtouch because the other keywords in black are used elsewhere and Lifelink is too good on a 6/6?

Yes, it’s usually a cycle with keyword issue.

Deathtouch on Large Creatures

New 16 Apr 2012 Asked by relentlessasrats-blog 5 Comments

Why do some large black creatures these days, namely Grave Titan and Harvester of Souls, have deathtouch? It seems inelegant to have an ability on these creatures that comes into effect so rarely since those two naturally kill most creatures without them (due to being 6/6 and 5/5 respectively). Is it just because black is short on creature keywords?

Sometimes deathtouch is used more for flavor than function.
