Goblin Kaboomist

UR Artificer Surprise

In regards to the UR Legendary Artificer discussion, it seems either disingenuous or worrying that this is taking you guys by surprise. You guys seemed to be dropping hints for this theme as early as C14 with the Daretti deck and M15 with cards like Kurkesh, Goblin Kaboomist, Scrapyard Mongrel, and the Shrapnel Blast reprint. Then in Origins, the UR scrapper/artificer theme was even more present. How could you guys have been dropping these sorts of hints and not noticed it?

Adding artifact elements to Red is a far cry from recognizing the absence of a Blue/Red legendary creature caring about artifacts. Also, until it got brought up specifically to me I’d assumed we’d already made one years ago. It’s the kind of thing you don’t realize we haven’t done yet.I personally didn’t start getting asked in volume about it until after Kaladesh design was done.

Non-creature Tokens

We've had non-creature Artifact tokens before. Born of the Gods/Journey into Nyx had the "Gold" tokens from Gild and King Macar. Magic 2015 had Goblin Kaboomist, who makes artifact tokens. And finally, the Nahiri planeswalker card from Commander 2014 can make an Equipment that is a token.

Okay, I was way off. Populate still doesn’t make any flavor sense duplicating noncreature tokens.

Missed Flavor Opportunity

I think you missed a major opportunity to make Goblin Kaboomist a Rigger and make Land Mine a Contraption.

A land mine is not a contraption. If we’re going to do it, we have to actually capture the flavor of contraptions.

Goblin Kaboomist Use

Is goblin kaboomist a solution for riggers and contraptions?

It’s a tool that maybe could be used, but it is not the solution.
