Frost Titan

Ward Keyword Precision

Why hasn't Diffusion Sliver and Frost Titan received Ward 2? It almost literally is identical wording to what Ward does.

Keywords have to be exact. Almost isn’t good enough.

Errata and Stun Counters

New 25 Aug 2022 Asked by coboney 33 Comments

Will old cards like Frost Titan and Sleep be errata'd to use Stun Counters?

We tend to only errata old cards when the function is identical, which is this case, it isn’t.

Cycle Reprint Considerations

New 21 Dec 2020 Asked by quidenimdecresco 64 Comments

Random thought: Can members of a cycle come back in a solo appearance if they happen to align with a certain theme but the cycle doesn't fit? E.g. could Frost Titan be theoretically reprinted in Kaldheim, which happens to have blue frost giants as a tribal theme?

Absolutely. Cycles do not have to be reprinted together.

Frost Titan's Ability

What do you think about Frost Titan's first ability as a replacement for hexproof?

Too much to use frequently at common.

Hexproof Complexity

New 14 Jun 2015 Asked by follower-of-liliana 13 Comments

I suspect hexproof will someday be replaced with the frost titan style of hexproof. Do you think plus 2 is enough ?

It’s a little too complex for something to consistently put on commons, so I don’t think it’s the answer.

Blue's Powerful Creatures

New 31 Oct 2014 Asked by wumpushunter 53 Comments

What about things like Phantasmal Dragon? It's a 5/5 for four in blue. Is that a color pie mistake? Thassa is a 5/5 for 3 indestructible. Frost titan is a 6/6 for 6 and he's covered in awesome sauce. Claiming blue has a large creature deficiency just isn't true.

So blue gets  a 5/5 flier that dies if you target it. Green gets 5/5 for four mana all the time with other positive abilities and that aren’t super fragile. Both the gods and titans were cycles. Thassa didn’t even become a creature right away and the Frost Titan is hardly the best Titan.  It’s not an issue that you can’t name a few efficient blue creatures (although even then there’s usually something else going on. Yes, Delver’s good but it can only be played in a deck with a lot of instants and sorceries), it’s a matter that blue gets very, very few most of which are conditional while green gets piles and piles and piles of mana efficient beefy beaters that aren’t at all conditional. You play them when you have the mana, which green helped you get out, and then you attack.

Blue Creature Ability

New 31 Jul 2014 Asked by micaelisx 14 Comments

I was playing with Frost Titan yesterday and realized that the "Whenever ~ becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that target spell or ability unless it's controller pays 2 more" could possibly become a keyword and be the missing blue creature ability. However, perhaps the ability is too strong or too uninteractive to be seen on a lot of creatures? Perhaps 1 more to cast? Any chance it could be used?

I’m not sure it’s an ability we want to be sticking on a common every set which is the need we have for a blue keyword.

Hexproof vs. Frost Titan

New 25 Feb 2014 Asked by aazadan 11 Comments

Given the problems with hexproof and interactivity has there ever been discussion on instead using an ability similar to what's on Frost Titan to create a removal resistant creature?

Frost Titan’s ability is not something we want in volume at common.

Keywording Frost Titan's Ability

New 15 May 2012 Asked by rivercrab 4 Comments

I don't remember whether I'd asked this or not, but might as well do it again - have you ever considered keywording Frost Titan's first ability in lieu of hexproof? It's a defensive mechanic that doesn't say "no interaction" as blatantly, and it can be tuned up and down (and sideways with targeting costs like "sacrifice a land").

Frost Giant’s ability is rather complex for a keyword ability. It has a trigger and can counter spells and requires the paying of mana.
