Bats in Bloomburrow Lore

New 14 Jul 2024 Asked by weevil-mastermind 20 Comments

I’d like to say thank you for not making the bats in Bloomburrow vampires. Or at least not making vampirism their main thing in the lore. Vampire bats are cool but overdone considering only 3 out of over 1,400 bat species drink blood (and those 3 species of vampire bay are only found in Central America and South America.)

In Bloomburrow, the Bats are the clergy.

There have been nonhuman vampires.

Appearance of Runo Stormkirk

I am a big fan of yours and pretty much made a account just to follow you!! But onto my question: Is Runo Stormkirk going to get a card in the upcoming Crimson Vow set? And if so is he going to be Grixis colored in order to reflect his connections to the sea gods on top of his vampirism?

Maybe. : )

Sagas and Storytelling

New 28 May 2018 Asked by lazcarno 43 Comments

"Every world has stories, and it would be a cool way to fill in some of the world's past. Unlike Dominaria, though, few worlds have stories the audience already knows." I don't think anyone wants to see Sagas based on stories they've never heard of just for the sake of having more Sagas. I think they want to see Sagas based on those few non-Dominaria stories that they DO know; like the sealing of the Eldrazi or the creation of vampirism on Innistrad. You could probably name one or two per plane.

The two planes Sagas can work on are returns, because Magic story happened there, and top-down planes, because the source material has known archetypal stories.

Sorin's Vampire Lineage

New 24 Oct 2015 Asked by 20percentcrueler 78 Comments

If I remember correctly Innistrad vampires are not birthed; they are sired in a process which involves draining the new vampire effectively killing them then weening them back to life on their sire's own blood. Additionaly the vampire bloodlines refered not to birth, but to which vampires were sired by who. So they are kind of undead still. Sorin was the first vampire to be sired. His grandfather, the first vampire, became so from a pact with a demon. Sorin then spread vampirism to other planes.

Vampire Mechanics Variety

New 13 Oct 2013 Asked by alienlovemessiah 16 Comments

It seems like every vampire has a different mechanic. Is this because nobody can think of a mechanic that satisfactorily represents vampirism? And if so, would Extort or something like it be a candidate going forward?

The reason we haven’t settled on a single vampire mechanic is that we do them a lot and it would get boring if they were mechanically always identical.
