I am LOVING the simpler designs in Bloomburrow. My favorite card of all time is Vampire Nighthawk so seeing a bunch of creatures with 2-4 evergreen keywords and nothing else makes me happy

Comma vs Semicolon in Keywords

Hey Mark. Can't really find an answer anywhere! Help! If you check the oracle text of Vampire Nighthawk and Longbow Archer, one of them has a comma between keywords and the other has a semicolon between em. Is there a reason for that? It's driving me crazy!

It’s supposed to be a comma. The semicolon is a typo.EDIT: I’m incorrect. Apparently semicolons are used when one of the abilities has reminder text.

Curious: is a French Vanilla creature one with 1 evergreen keyword, or any number? For example, is Vampire Nighthawk (flying, lifelink, deathtouch) French Vanilla? Is there a point where a preponderance of keywords moves it out of French Vanilla territory (like, say, Akroma, Angel of Wrath)?

A French Vanilla creature can have any number of evergreen creature keywords.

Will Vampire Nighthawk ever see a printing without reminder text? :(

We’re not all that focused on making reminder text-less versions of cards. A promo card is your best chance, but even that would have reminder text if aimed at a venue where less experienced players might get their hands on it.

Hey MaRo! Today is my birthday, could you bestow some knowledge on the card that started it all for me, Vampire Nighthawk?

Ever since Deathtouch and Lifelink became keywords, players have requested we put them together. They don’t have much synergy together but the combination of “life” and “death” on one card felt cool. So finally we gave in and made one. The power level ended up a little pushed and we made a beloved card. Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was my birthday, and after a year of waiting for my turn to ask a question I forgot to do it yesterday! Anyway, could I have any info on my favorite cards: Vampire Knighthawk or Deathrite Shaman?

Vampire Nighthawk was made to fill a French vanilla slot. Lifelink and Deathtouch aren’t particularly synergistic together but the “life” paired with “death” sounded cool. Happy Birthday!

Lifelink and deathtouch aren’t really all that synergistic but they feel like the connect because of the contrast of their names, so we made this card and it has proved to be very popular. Happy Birthday!

Giant Card Curiosity

In the daily MTG article "looking back at modern" there is a picture of a man named Erik Lauer and behind him is a poster of the "Vampire Nighthawk" card. Where did this come from? How do I get one? Are there other posters like this of different cards?

White Race Selection

You say white's iconic race isn't Cat/Fox/Kithkin/Loxodon because they weren't well received. But are you sure they weren't well received because you didn't make them splashy enough? The very first thing you did when you "mainstreamed" vampires in black was to give them cards like Vampire Nocturnus, Vampire Nighthawk, Bloodghast, etc. I don't see cards of that caliber in any of the white races above, and then you wonder why people weren't clamoring for them? Pardon my french, but duh!

We also secretly masterminded the Twilight phenomenon. : )
