Future Starfish Creatures

Any chance for more starfish creatures? Niche though they may be, I have a soft spot for them.

I expect we’ll make more Starfish.

Tarkir's Direction Change

New 01 Apr 2023 Asked by myswimmingfurybouquetstuff 36 Comments

I can't believe we are finally going back to Tarkir! Though understandably most people are angry with the set being based around shard colored jellyfish factions instead of wedge colored dragon factions.
What led you to move Tarkir in that direction?

I’ve become a little obsessed with starfish ever since the last Suicide Squad movie.

Extinct Creature Suggestions

New 27 Dec 2021 Asked by submergedforgottencladogram 40 Comments

Some more extinct suggestions, as I was told off for not naming any invertebrates. No prehistoric sea would be complete without skittering eurypterids ('sea scorpions'), long-stalked feathery crinoids ('sea lillies', cousins of starfish), tentacled ammonoids in coiled shells (altho 'heteromorphs' became insane living knots, like Nipponites), hordes of trilobites (perhaps one with a trident ala Walliserops), and other oddities, like claw-snouted Tully Monster or the giant-eyed Dollocaris.

Thanks for the list.

Creature Type Consolidation

New 08 Oct 2016 Asked by lgosvse 29 Comments

Have you ever thought about consolidating the list of creature types? For example, Starfish is a creature type, but you can make all Starfish into Fish, which is also a creature type.

We did that some with the Great Creature Update. We’ve had mixed success.

@RoboBlogatog Could we see Sigiled Starfish's ability on an owl?

I am not a developer. Ask Doug.

Sapient Starfish Possibility

so, what, a race of sapient starfish is out of the question?

It’s fantasy. There’s always a chance. : )

Future Planeswalker Races

>"Besides Goblin, what race of walker are you looking forward to designing? All of them. : )". So, when you expect to have a Starfish planeswalker?

We’re probably sticking with sapient planeswalkers.

Squirrel Cards Request

New 10 May 2014 Asked by flashywav 37 Comments

I understand your superior's position of not putting squirrels in focus. But magic has a range of "normal" animals each sets (Tigers, Bears, Fight, Starfish, Badger etc) I don't see why we can't have at least a squirrel each 2 blocks or in a core set. I don't feel they are out of place.

Preaching to the choir. I honestly don’t get the squirrel embargo.

First the second Starfish, then the second Nautilus, now the second Sheep. The entire Creative team that worked on Journey into Nyx deserves a high five.

I’ll see what I can do. : )

Starfish vs Squirrels

Seriously??? How does development justify starfish but squirrels are off limits?? Starfish can't even get rabies to get scary

I got a new card idea - Rabid Starfish. : )

Starfish Opinion Change

New 10 Apr 2014 Asked by tehpoker 155 Comments

You are acting all pro-Starfish all of a sudden, but when I asked you for some more Starfish in Magic back in 2011 you responded with, and I quote, "Starfish can suck it." (I can't link to the question here, but googling that phrase will get you there.)

Called out! Here’s the original post with my answer: tehpoker asked: Firstly, let me say how refreshing it is to finally see a block that DOESN’T feature elves and goblins for the umpteenth time. As for my actual question, before inquiring what creature types Magic should have that doesn’t yet (btw, Walrus and Platypus, wholeheartedly), shouldn’t some spotlight be given to the “forgotten” creature types Magic DOES have? Jellyfish, Goat, Pegasus, Turtle, Scorpion, Harpy, Hippo, Whale, Satyr, Starfish, all of these and more are cool types that deserve some love. I am very pro-goat, pro-hippo and pro-turtle. I believe pegasus, scorpions, harpies and satyrs each make perfect sense in the right block.  I acknowledge that jellyfsh have a popular following for purely nostalgic reasons (Man O’ War). Starfish can suck it. :) You got me. I’m a starfish bandwagoner, only hopping on once they got a ground swell of support.  Please don’t think less of me.

Starfish High-Five

Well, I was going to improve the gameplay for the fall 2015 set…

Aquatic Creatures Appreciation

First the second Starfish ever, and now the second Nautilus ever! What a great set for sea creatures and the players who love them (like me)! Thanks!

You’re welcome. Note that this was all the creative team’s doing.

Why Starfish?

New 08 Apr 2014 Asked by blekkja 67 Comments

Why Starfish as a creature type? Wouldn't it be better simplified to simply Fish?

I think you’re not aware of the starfish lobbyists. : )

Physical Token Production

New 15 Jan 2013 Asked by arcbound-phyrexian 18 Comments

Like many out there, I'm a huge fan of the the physical tokens Wizards has been printing for sets, and have been collecting them. How possible would it be for R&D to start consciously thinking about getting physical tokens printed for token types that don't have cards yet by reprinting cards that make those tokens in sets or special products, or by printing cards that make previously used tokens? I need to be able to tell the difference between my Deserters and my Starfish in style, you know?

It’s something we’ve talked about.
