Addressing Squirrel Dealer Dispute

New 09 Jun 2024 Asked by anookee 40 Comments

Regarding Squirrel Dealer, what is the outcome if I have proof my opponent likes squirrels but they're lying to me? It says ask them if they like squirrels, and IF THEY DO, not IF THEY SAY YES. I feel very strongly I should get a squirrel if they like squirrels, even if they SAY no.

They are the determiner of what they like. Maybe yesterday they loved Squirrels, but have since learned they were responsible for a horrible atrocity.

Raccoon Trivia Request

New 14 Jun 2022 Asked by haru-n-harkel 43 Comments

Mark, it's my birthday, so I was wondering if I could get some trivia on magic's Frist (non-changeling) Raccoon: Squirrel Dealer! Thanks so much, and high fives to whoever got squirrels in black border!

The card wasn’t made specifically as a Raccoon. We wanted it to be a mix of creatures, but didn’t care which ones, as long as it was peddling Squirrels. When the art came back, we added the appropriate creature types. Happy Birthday!

Where are “cares about people outside the game” (like Squirrel Dealer) on the Gotcha scale

We call that outside assistance. I’d put that at a 3.

New Players Enjoy Unstable

Got the opportunity to teach Magic to two new people over the weekend and they fell in LOVE! My friends girlfriend immediately grabbed my Unstable boosters and asked if we could do that next and fell in love even more! Squirrel Dealer was a fan favorite and this weekend I'm going through my collection to give them some cards. Thanks for making our weekend so much fun.

You’re welcome. Thanks for teaching new people.

Squirrel Dealer Inquiry

New 31 Mar 2019 Asked by thomaswinwood 22 Comments

Un-rules question: If someone plays Squirrel Dealer and asks me if I like squirrels, can I ask a question and make my answer contingent upon their response, or does that constitute a failure to say I like squirrels? I like red squirrels but not grey squirrels, as they're an invasive species where I live, and I want to ask which kind they mean before I give my answer.

You need to answer yes or no.

Squirrel Dealer Humor

I’m doing Unstable pack wars with my partner. I just played Squirrel Dealer. I didn’t have anyone around, so I called the local Dominos to ask if they liked squirrels. They hung up on me :(.

(Shaking fist in air) Dominoes! Next time try Pizza Hut. I hear they like squirrels.

Squirrel Dealer Clarification

New 24 Jan 2018 Asked by lgosvse 56 Comments

If I play a Squirrel Dealer, and ask someone "Do you like squirrels?" and the response I get is "All but one. He knows what he did.", then do I get a Squirrel token or no?

Yes, because they have implied they like all squirrels but one in existence thus “squirrels”.

Language Flexibility

New 22 Nov 2017 Asked by nilsreberg-blog 21 Comments

Do cards, such as Squirrel Dealer, require a player to ask the question in English? If I'm playing at a Swedish LGS against a Swedish player, can I ask them the Swedish equivalent of the question?

You may speak in a language you and the outside person both speak.

Truthful Expression

New 22 Nov 2017 Asked by thetragiccomedian-deactivated20 17 Comments

Hey maro, question for you about squirrel dealer; the card specifies, "ask a person outside the game if he or she likes squirrels, if he or she does, create a squirrel token." So what if that person says they like squirrels, but you know for a fact that they don't?

It matters what they say not what you think you know.

Squirrel Dealer is a bird. Why doesn't it have flying? (Apart from being mono-G, I mean...)

It has bird hands, that’s it.
