Magic 2011

Standard Duration Impact

New 20 Sep 2023 Asked by sigmasonicx 40 Comments

About ten years ago, it was considered a mistake to have printed the Titans in both M11 and M12 since players got annoyed about having them in Standard for so long. With the three year Standard, that increases the risk of having cards that wouldn't be banned in a two-year Standard sticking around long enough to bother players. Is this influencing what sorts of designs are in upcoming sets?

It’s something we think about. Note that the power level is higher for three-year Standard than two-year Standard.

Phyrexian Titans Selection

New 30 Mar 2023 Asked by zackdes44 37 Comments

Before your spoiler I was thinking how cool it'd be to get Phyrexian versions of all 5 M11 Titans. Why bring back only one, and how did you decide which one to bring back?

March of the Machine had a whole multiverse to cover, so there was a lot of one of this and one of that.

Just FYI, In your A to Z article for Hornet Sting you refer to Magic 2021 meaning Magic 2011.

Thanks. It’s been fixed.

Worldwake Card Grouping Trivia

New 26 Oct 2021 Asked by aoliitis 33 Comments

Regarding Whales vs. Krackens, Leviathans, Octopuses, and Serpents. The first card to group them was Quest for Ula's Temple in Worldwake - which only had one kracken: Wrexial, the Risen Deep. Zendikar had 1 Krakens, 1 Octopus and 1 Serpent, but still no Leviathans. However, at the time of Worldwake's printing no whales had been printed since Great Whale in Urza's Saga nearly 12 years prior whereas Alara block had 3 Leviathans (and another was coming in M11).

[We stopped it many years ago.] M11 wasn't *that* long ago.

It was six years ago.

DTW for Core Sets

New 14 Feb 2015 Asked by nobthehobbit 89 Comments

"Is there a good chance of you doing a DTW for the core sets?" "Core sets other than some of the early ones, 2010 and Magic Origins are tricky because I had so little involvement with them." I'd be fine if your Magic 2011 DTW was nothing but a rant about Hornet Sting.

Me swearing for an entire car ride probably wouldn’t meet the family friendly guideline I set for my social media. : )
