Guttersnipe

Errata Impact

New 20 Dec 2017 Asked by windydelcarlo 28 Comments

I'm concerned that errataing some but not all things might make already sketchy cards like Fevered Visions and Guttersnipe even worse than they already are.

There will always be corner case awkwardness, but with each year, those will be less and less of a focus.

If a card says "each opponent" takes damage, does that include planeswalkers? Example: Guttersnipe

Vanilla Spell Concept

New 03 Mar 2017 Asked by drukai 42 Comments

Do you as a designer ever want to create cards like this hypothetical "Vanilla Noncreature Spell" to see if someone can effectively utilize it? Something along the lines of a 0 cost Vanilla Instant in a set with cards like Guttersnipe, Young Pyromancer, Monastery Swiftspear or even Kiln Fiend could be a bizarre but interesting tool.

The problem is it takes up space that can be used to make a card that significantly more people will play with and enjoy.

Hello Mr. Rosewater, it's my Birthday and I was hoping to ask you for trivia about the greatest Magic Card ever - Guttersnipe!

Guttersnipe was created because we were trying to find ways to get creatures into a instant/sorcery themed Izzet deck.Happy Birthday!

Creature-Light Set Feasibility

New 04 Jan 2014 Asked by abundantfrog 9 Comments

could a creature-light set be done if the creatures were crutial to use alongside the spells, perhaps with things like guttersnipe, goblin electromancer typed affects finding their ways into any color? if the sets around were heavier on creatures than usual, would it be able to work?

The question isn’t “Could I make a creature-light set?” but “Should I make a creature-light set?” I could but I shouldn’t. Note that this doesn’t mean we won’t ever make it lower than normal but lower than normal and creature-light are not the same thing.

Curiosity Power Adjustment

New 03 Sep 2013 Asked by gutterstorm 5 Comments

Finally decided to get in on the question asking and I have so many but I'll start with the one on my mind now: It seems as though, In the Theros previews so far the ophidian ability has been reworked to only trigger on combat damage instead of all damage as we saw with Curiosity and Ophidian Eye. It makes me a little sad because A Curious Guttersnipe is the only thing that makes the current Standard bearable for me. Is there a power issue with all damage, if not what brought up this decision?

Making card draw too abusable has historically caused a lot of problems so we got more conservative with it.

Guttersnipe Guild Affiliation

What guild is Guttersnipe actually from? I am very conflicted between it being Izzet or Rakdos.

It’s mechanically Izzet but creatively Rakdos.
