I’ve been a big advocate of reprinting the holiday cards.

Acorn Stamps and Design

New 01 Dec 2021 Asked by ultimatealphawalker 21 Comments

Does the creation of acorn stamps mean that you are disinclined to use designs like Fruitcake Elemental (which is not mechanically an acorn card) for things like holiday promos?

We’ve always tried to design the holiday card to be silver border/acorn. Fruitcake Elemental, the first one was the biggest stretch as you’re correct that the card easily works in black border.

Mechanically Viable Silver Border Cards

New 02 Oct 2020 Asked by natew000 31 Comments

Following up on silver border being reserved for “things you can’t do in black border,” would that also include cards that are mechanically viable in black border but have jokes or silliness that isn’t appropriate?

There are some cards like Fruitcake Elemental (the first Wizards holiday card) where all the individual pieces can be done in black border, but the cohesive top doen creative that makes it make sense wouldn’t be done in black border.

What are the odds that Fruitcake Elemental gets errata'd into the Food subtype?

It can’t. Food is an artifact subtype.

Food Errata Discussion

Will Fruitcake Elemental and Yule Ooze get errata'd to Food as well? :)

They can’t for two reasons:1) It’s an artifact subtype.2) All Food has “2, T, Sac: Gain 2 life.”

Favorite Holiday Card

New 27 Dec 2015 Asked by manacharged 23 Comments

What's your favorite holiday card? For me, it's hard to displace the original Fruitcake Elemental, but I might have to go with Snow Mercy.

I really like Stocking Tiger.

Happy Holidays Card Tradition

Hi Mark-I was wondering is Wizards doing another Happy Holidays card for 2012? Also have you thought about doing an april fools day promo ala the Un-cards? Best wishes

This is the seventh year we’ve done a holiday card. Previous years: 2006- Fruitcake Elemental 2007 - Gifts Given 2008 - Evil Presents 2009 - Season’s Beatings 2010 - Snow Mercy 2011 - Yule Ooze 2012 - Naughty//Nice

Fruitcake Elemental Query

New 06 Dec 2012 Asked by eyeball-frog 3 Comments

Could we ever see Fruitcake Elemental (or a functional equivalent) in black-bordered land?

The reason the card has a silver border is that the mechanic doesn’t make any sense without the flavor and the flavor is too silly for black-bordered cards.
