False Orders

Boldness in Spell Restrictions

New 03 Jul 2024 Asked by nothingbutland-blog 4 Comments

I just listened to your restrictions podcast. But restricted spell casting and even abilities were baked into the game in Alpha, Sirens Call, Camouflage, False Orders could only be played at specific times, Neteling Imp could only be activated at a specific time and Veteran Body Guard only dud his Kevin Cosner impression if untapped. Not to mention the interupt, instant and sorcery timing rules.

There have always been restrictions. We’ve just been more bold in where and how often we can use them.

Clarifying False Orders

New 06 May 2024 Asked by gonzoron 3 Comments

Looking at the very old card "false orders" recently. The oracle text doesn't include any wording about making illegal choices like the original does. Poking around online, it looks like judges vary in their interpretation, but since no one plays it much, it hasn't been an issue. As currently worded, I think it world be a cool combat trick in commander, but would want to start arguments at my LGS. Who do we ask for an official ruling/ wording update?

A card doesn’t have to tell you you can’t make illegal choices. The lack of stating it doesn’t make illegal choices legal. I don’t have a great place to send you for official judge rulings.

Red's Combat Manipulation

New 08 Oct 2023 Asked by nothingbutland-blog 33 Comments

Red has in the past had False Orders and other effects that alter how combat is chosen such as requirements for blocking etc. Will Red get spells/abilities that allow it to change creatures attacking from player to battle or planeswalker or vice versa? Or are these effects no longer Red or even in the game?

Red can prevent blocking and can even force blocking, but it can’t force one specific creature to face another specific creature in combat. It can directly fight though.

False Orders Card Query

Is False Orders a bend in red now or is that possible Boros space?

Red can keep things from blocking or force something to be blocked, but it furan’s quite have the precision of False Orders.

Rationale Behind Ice Storm Absence

New 13 Nov 2021 Asked by sinfoid 45 Comments

There are 3 cards not on the reserved list only printed in alpha beta unlimited, Camoflage, False Orders and Ice Storm. I understand why you won’t reprint the first 2, but why has ice storm never been reprinted? Land destruction is still in Green’s color pie.

Not at three mana.

Art Inquiry in 'Tales from the Pit'

New 04 Dec 2020 Asked by jacekenai 27 Comments

Which card is the art of your most recent tales from the pit (2448) from? Also, any chance you could add the card name to TffP if the art is from an existing card? (Not if it's too much work for you of course though)

The card is False Orders from Alpha. (All my comics this week are about Alpha.)

Mindslaver Mechanics

New 17 Jul 2019 Asked by tbjanowski 26 Comments

Mindslaver effects are either very loved or absolutely hated. What about Word of Command or False Orders where you take control of only one or two decisions?

The rules can easily handle taking over a turn. Taking partial control and casting just a spell or two is much harder to do because you have to deal with how the other player can respond.
