Land Art Preferences

New 30 Oct 2016 Asked by nissalavellan-deactivated201612 36 Comments

You may or may not have seen the video where Evan Erwin compares half-art basic lands to white-border cards, saying WotC will realise that it was a mistake to be printing them and move to solely full-art. Do you think the comparison is inaccurate?

No. Black border was never an incentive to purchase sets. We actually tried once to make it an incentive and it failed miserably.

Tumblr Inspiration

New 22 Apr 2015 Asked by troacctid 13 Comments

Mark, you've credited Evan Erwin a couple times with inspiring you to join Tumblr, but you're misremembering. It was actually Robby Rothe (@mtgcolorpie) who suggested it, not Evan Erwin.

Multiple people told me to try Tumblr. Robby might have been the one to post publicly on Twitter.

Blogatog Birthday Trivia

Hello, my name is Blogatog and it is my birthday today. Can you give me some trivia about your favorite part of me?

When I first started making my “Tales from the Pit” comics, I posted them on Twitter and Evan Erwin suggested I collect them somewhere. I asked where and he suggested Tumblr. While posting the comics, I was asked if people could send me questions in the set-up and I said “Sure, why not?” : ) Happy Birthday Blogatog!

Hall of Fame Idea

New 15 Aug 2014 Asked by sweetoothtkc-blog 94 Comments

Do you think there will ever be a "non-player" Hall of Fame for Magic? A place where people like Evan Erwin, BDM, Marshall Sutcliffe and R&D can be immortalized for their contributions to the game and the community surrounding it.

I would love to see the Magic Pro Tour Hall of Fame turn into the Magic Hall of Fame in which the Pro Tour is one wing. There are lots of other people who have contributed to the game other than pro players.

Blogatog Trivia

This week I've had my first year anniversary following Blogatog. Can I get some trivia on Blogatog for my anniversary?

Blogatog stated because Evan Erwin suggested that I start a Tumblr to put my “Tales from the Pit” comic that I just started. At some point Tumblr asked if I would be willing to answer questions from followers. I innocently said yes having no idea what I was getting into. Happy Blogatog Anniversary!

Art Change Concerns

New 14 Jun 2013 Asked by boristhewizard 22 Comments

During their set review of the black cards in Modern Masters, Brad Nelson and Evan Erwin got pretty heated about the new art for Dark Confidant. Noting that it seemed like a low blow to have him write an article to tell the public that he's okay with it. While you've already mentioned that there was never any promise to the winners that the art wouldn't be changed, most people seem to believe that it goes against the spirit of the prize. What are your thoughts on this?

While I’m sympathetic to the Invitational winners, here’s the problem. We want to be able to reprint these cards. If they’re in an expert expansion, they have to get new art. That art has to fit the new world. Often that would mean we are unable to have the winner appear again in the art.  It feels wrong to sometimes reuse the invitational winner and sometimes not, so it we made the call that the first appearance of the card is the winner and later reprints are not. (Note we did one promo version with new art for Kai Budde’s card because we felt the original had not turned out as well as we had hoped.) As for Bob, we talked to him and asked him if he wanted to write the article showing off the preview of the new Dark Confidant. Bob was under no obligation to write the article or say anything that he did. He did it because he wanted to not because we forced him to.

Podcast Media Format

New 17 Dec 2012 Asked by swordoath 10 Comments

I find it difficult to sit and listen to a podcast without any type of video or accompanying visual. I've always been a very visually-oriented person and feel that there are many others like me. Much like your quest to create cards for all types of players, can I ask that you look into presenting your podcasts in additional fashions -- perhaps on YouTube with pictures that would accompany your subject? I know it's a lot to ask but I feel I could enjoy them more this way.

1) It’s a podcast. It’s an oral medium. 2) The reason I do it on my car on the way to work is that’s the only time I can spare to do it. I don’t have time to edit together visual images to accompany my text. Ask Evan Erwin - that takes a lot of time to do. 3) I appear from time to time in “Walking the Planes” if you have a hankering for seeing me in video.

Did you guys forget to spoil the rest of realms before it goes on sale? If not can you tell us when we see the rest?

Evan Erwin did a video where he unboxes the entire set.  You can check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-ql42F42bY

Mechanic Name Hints

New 06 Dec 2011 Asked by pauljwoods-blog 3 Comments

What is the first letter of one of the new mechanics in Dark Ascension?

I never remember the final names of mechanics (or cards if you saw my interview with Evan Erwin) so all I can tell you is that the playtest name for one of the new mechanics in Dark Ascension started with a T.

Name Attachments

Are there innistrad cards you prefer the play testing names over what they were released with?

The vast majority of my time with the cards is with the playtest name so I get used to that name. That’s why, for example, I’m so bad at remembering card names (most recently seen in Evan Erwin’s interview with me.) http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/standard/23188_Worlds_2011_Interview_Mark_Rosewater.html Usually when the card gets a real name, I eventually learn to use that name, but sometimes I’m so fond of the playtest name that the new name never sticks. For example, I doubt I will ever call the card Clone Shell because it will always be Meat Puppet to me. Likewise Trepanation Blade will always be Chainsaw.
