Collector Number Changes

New 05 Nov 2022 Asked by machinepriestexemplar 39 Comments

"They are listed by collector number as being affiliated with that color."This is actually a weird change, as the cards aren't those colors. The only thing that this change would correlate with is color identity, something that up until this point, only mattered in commader. Is this how all cards will be assigned collector numbers going forward? In future products, will Elves of Deep Shadow be given a collector number that sets it among other gold cards? Or is this a change only for BRO?I don't mind a change, but I believe in consistency. Is this change a permanent one? It wouldn't make much sense to do it for only one set.

This is a thing just for The Brothers’ War because we made the choice to give all artifacts generic mana costs, but mostly associate them with a color.

Favorite White Card

New 11 Feb 2021 Asked by fanharmonicon 97 Comments

What’s your favorite white card?

Look at Me, I’m the DCI. It’s one of only two cards designed, named, drawn, and flavor text written by one person. (I did it for this card. Jesper Myrfors did it for Elves of Deep Shadow.)

Reverse Elves of Deep Shadow

Would a reverse Elves of Deep Shadow (Black one drop that taps for green) be a bend or a break?

Black could do “T, Pay 1 life: Add G.”

Green's Color Tapping

New 26 Nov 2018 Asked by saxtirical 22 Comments

There is already a 1 mana green creature that taps for black (Elves of Deep Shadow) and blue (Noble Hierarch). I was really surprised that there wasn't already one for red. What makes it so much more tricky than that the others? Also I found Wild Cantor while doing a little research, how do you feel about that design now?

Green can tap for any color, so it can tap for red. It’s just an issue of flavor and whether or not it’s a one-drop 1/1.

Card Creation Roles

Do you know if there is anyone else who has designed, drawn, named and written the flavor text for a card other than you?

Yes. Jesper Myrfors with the card Elves of Deep Shadow from The Dark (to the best of my knowledge).

Mana Production Potential

New 13 Jun 2015 Asked by ubsuporter 48 Comments

We have Elvish Mystic/Llanowar Elves for green, Avacyn's Pilgrim for white, Boreal Druid for colorless and (more or less) Elves of Deep Shadow for black. There is any possibility for a green one drop that create red or blue mana? Which color have more chance?

Neither have a good chance but Red has a better chance than Blue because Red is an ally of Green.

Designer-Drawn Cards

New 19 Mar 2015 Asked by crassbrass-blog 33 Comments

Has there ever been a card designed that was drawn by the same person who designed it? Is it Look at me I'm the DCI?

The two I know are Look At Me, I’m the DCI by me and Elves of Deep Shadow by Jesper Myrfors.

All-In-One Card Creation

Does anybody else have a card they designed, named, did the flavor text for, and drew the art?

Yes, Jesper Myrfors did it for Elves of Deep Shadow in The Dark.

Card Creation Trivia

New 16 Aug 2013 Asked by jaymictheunyielding 22 Comments

I believe that means your favorite Magic trivia question is something like "Who are the only two people to provide both design and art for the same card", correct?

Close. Jesper Myrfors and I are the two people who have named, illustrated, designed and written the flavor text for the same card.  Jesper’s card is Elves of Deep Shadow (from The Dark) and mine is Look at Me, I’m the DCI (from Unglued). See if you can tell which of us is the professional artist. : )

Jesper Myrfors' Creation

New 19 Feb 2013 Asked by rowanalpha 1 Comments

What card did Jesper myfors design, illustrate, name and write flavor text for?

It was definitely in The Dark (the set Jesper led designed). I think the card (and maybe there’s more than one) is Elves of Deep Shadow.

Quadruple Crown Achievement

New 30 Dec 2012 Asked by doopboopdoop 7 Comments

Has anyone tried to get another "triple crown" of doing the design, flavor and artwork for a card?

Two people have designed a card, illustrated it and wrote both the name and flavor text for it (making it, of course, a “quadruple crown”). I did it with Look At Me, I’m the DCI in Unglued. Jesper Myrfors did it with Elves of Deep Shadow in The Dark. Both of us were the lead designers of those respective sets.

Mana Accelerators Design

New 25 Jul 2012 Asked by gabeman42-blog 4 Comments

Green has several different flavors of 1 drop mana accelerators, some can even produce non-green mana.,Elves of deep shadow, noble hierarch, tap for green's enemies blue and black. but the only one that taps for red is birds of paradise. Why is there no avacyn's pilgrim for red?

We’re conserving future design space. : )

Unique Card Design Feat

New 15 Jun 2012 Asked by benfreakingharris-deactivated20 14 Comments

Is it still true that you designed and illustrated the only card ever designed and illustrated by the same person (Look at Me, I'm the DCI)?

The actual feat is having a card in which you designed it, named it, illustrated it and wrote the flavor text for it. To the best of my knolwedge, this has only ever been done twice in the history of Magic. One is Look At Me, I’m the DCI from Unglued done by myself. The other is Elves of Deep Shadow from The Dark done by Jesper Myrfors (who was also Magic’s first art director). A little trivia for you all.

Most Signed Cards

New 08 Apr 2012 Asked by fallen-reality 4 Comments

Ever since you gave out an address for us fans to send cards to you to be signed, how many have you gotten, and is there a single card you see more often than others? Also, where do you tend to put your signature?

My signature card (literally and figuratively) is Maro from Mirage (and numerous core sets) as I not only designed it but it was named after me (MArk ROsewater). It is by far the card I sign most. My second most signed card is Look at Me, I’m the DCI from Unglued as I was the artist (as well as the person who named it, made the mechanic and wrote the flavor text - a feat only accomplished by one other man, Jesper Myrfors on Elves of Deep Shadow from The Dark). Past those two I tend to sign all sorts of different cards. Having a hand in designing thousands of Magic cards, there is plenty to choose from. I usually sign at the bottom of the art.
