Dissipate

Non Restricted Counter Spell

New 20 Oct 2021 Asked by nothingbutland-blog 36 Comments

If Cancel is below rate for a non restricted counter spell why not use one of the 3 mana versions with a minor upside. Like Dissipate, Dissolve, Didn't Say Please, Dream Fracture, Sinister Sabotage or even Wizards Retort? I can understand Hinder, Disallow or even Archmage Charm being too influential for Standard but surely the others would make a better replacement for Cancel?

Every spell doesn’t have to be optimized for tournament play. There advantages to having some simple, straight forward spells.

Innistrad Card Reprint Teaser

New 07 Sep 2021 Asked by grey-oppenheimer 52 Comments

Mark, in your teaser you mentioned a popular Innistrad card will get reprinted. Do you mean Innistrad the set, Innistrad the block, or Innistrad the plane? Was this a teaser for Dissipate (which has already been spoiled)?

I meant Innistrad, the set. And no, I wasn’t referring to Dismiss.

Teaser Card in Midnight Hunt

Hi Mark! In your teaser for Midnight Hunt, you said "a popular Innistrad card gets reprinted." Since then, we've seen previews for 2 cards originally printed in Innistrad: Unruly Mob, and Dissipate. Can you confirm if either of these is the card intended by your teaser?

Neither is the card I was referring to, but if you want to count either as that, I won’t mind.

Adventure Countered Outcome

New 06 Sep 2019 Asked by todayshighlights 31 Comments

Mark, if I cast an adventure and it gets countered, where does it go? Exile (and able to be cast as a creature spell) or the graveyard? What if it is countered with a card like Dissipate that exiles the target spell?

It goes to the graveyard. If Dissipated, it goes to exile but isn’t on an adventure and the creature can’t be cast.

Cancel Cost Design

With Dissolve and Dissipate being strictly better Cancels, do you think we will ever see Cancel (under a different name) get printed at 2U?

No, we like hard counter spells to have two colored mana in them.

Cancel vs Dissipate

New 13 May 2013 Asked by rupertgrintsdumbface-deactivate 8 Comments

Why are Dissipate and Cancel in standard at the same time? Why not reprint another common-level counterspell for M13?

Magic has “strictly better” cards in it. That’s one of the side effects of a trading card game.

Syncopate Naming

Why is it named Syncopate?

Because it’s a cross between Power Sink and Dissipate.

Promising Izzet Cards

New 13 Sep 2012 Asked by sansafro187-blog 2 Comments

It's kinda depressing that the Izzet part of the cycle is almost always going to be outclassed by Dissipate. Cheer me up, Maro. Tell me there's more Izzet goodness coming.

Did you see Epic Experiments last night?
