Corpsejack Menace

Atraxa Deck Victory

MARO! I DID IT! 2 hours into an (super fun) yet drawn out game of commander I (with my Atraxa deck): played Corpsejack Menace, doubled the 8 counters on Kalonian Hydra with Vorel of the Hull Clade (8+16=32), then Deepglow Skated it (32+64=96), then attacked (96+192=) for 288 points of damage for the win!!! Double bubble toil and trample, I love Magic :-)

Doubling Mechanics Contribution

So since you love doubling things so much, did you have a hand in the making of both Vorel of the Hull Clade and Corpsejack Menace?

I had a hand in both. : )

Naming With Keywords

Would "Corpsejack Menace" have been printed with that name if "menace" was a keyword back then?

No.

Birthday Trivia

New 23 Jul 2015 Asked by gazer-beam 20 Comments

Hello Mark! It's my birthday today and I was hoping to get trivia on either one of my 2 favorite cards in magic. Krenko, Mob Boss, or Corpsejack Menace!

Many years ago I made Doubling Season. I love doubling and the card was just me making a card I wanted to be able to play. It turns out I wasn’t alone and the card was much beloved. In Zendikar, I tried reprinting it but the introduction of planeswalkers made it problematic in Standard. We decided we would chop up the component pieces of Doubling Season and make a series of cards over many blocks. Corpsejack Menace was one of those cards. Happy Birthday!

+1/+1 Counters and Guilds

New 04 May 2014 Asked by trifas 22 Comments

Were there any complaints about Simic being the "+1/+1 counters guild" but Selesnya getting Chorus of the Conclave and Golgari getting Corpsejack Menace?

More than one guild can care about +1/+1 counters.

More Doubling Cards?

New 25 Sep 2013 Asked by not-even-irl 33 Comments

I'm curious as to whether or not there are going to be any more green doubling cards like Doubling Season, Corpsejack Menace, or Parallel Lives.

There will be if I have anything to do with it.

Doubling Season Variants

New 11 Sep 2013 Asked by nimnengil 3 Comments

Mark, regarding non-planeswalker doubling seasons, can we see a version that actually matches doublins season's double-threat of effects, tokens and counters? Or could we see a mono-green counter doubler? Corpsejack menace isn't a valid replacement, since the black warps the color requirements so much.

I don’t you’ll see Doubling Season minus planeswalkers straight up. Its rich enough space that we’ve been doing different parts of it in different places.

Doubling Season Combo Thanks

When we drafted my Ravnica cube the other night I got to pull off Doubling Season + Corpsejack Menace + Ooze Flux + an evolver. Thank you, Mark. Thank you.

Let me just say… that sounds awesome. Glad I was able to help allow you to do that. : )

Doubling Season Discussion

New 15 Sep 2012 Asked by tenspeedgames 3 Comments

If I'm understanding correctly, the main problem with Doubling Season ended up becoming the advent of Planeswalkers, and the way the card type interacted. Could we, then, theoretically see a card that combines the abilities of Parallel Lives and Corpsejack Menace?

I think for now, we’re having fun splitting up elements of Doubling Season.

Doubling Tokens Creature

After seeing Corpsejack Menace, any chances of us getting a creature that has the ability of doubling tokens?

Designing Corpsejack Menace

Is it safe to assume you had a hand in designing Corpsejack Menace?

If it doubles things, odds are I had something to do with it. : )
