Card Errata Considerations

New 17 Jan 2020 Asked by drantlers 43 Comments

would wizards ever consider functional errata for cards to make them work In line with player expectations? ie, giving the Brothers Yamazaki a Partner With style ability so they can be used together in commander.

We’re more likely to make a new card than functional errataing an old one.

Brothers Yamazaki Art

What is the "Brothers Yamazaki art thing", is it just that this card had 2 different variants?

Yes, each brother had their own art version.

Alternate Art Issues

New 15 Sep 2016 Asked by epitaphase 27 Comments

I thought one of the reasons why cards aren't printed with alternate art in the same set (like Brothers Yamazaki) was that is made it harder to players to easily distinguish which cards were which. I seem to remember this being a problem in older sets that had a bunch of cards with alternate art.

Fallen Empire had three or four arts for all the commons and not being able to recognize the cards was a huge problem.

Printing Technology Limits

How long till printing technology reaches the point where doing the Brothers Yamazaki art thing is financially reasonable?

I don’t know. We’re not there yet.

Brothers Yamazaki Design

New 12 Sep 2016 Asked by jaxxisr 31 Comments

Since you like to double stuff, was Brothers Yamazaki your design? (For those that don't know, it's the legendary Samurai who the Legend Rule didn't apply to if there were two of him on the battlefield)

I’m not sure. Having two arts was my idea.

Twin Cards Trivia

Speaking of babies, my twins were born aseveral weeks back. Any triva on twins in magic?

I came up with a cute idea with Brothers Yamazaki where we’d have two arts as the card represented brothers. That little joke ended up causing excess logistical issues which cost a bunch of money which I didn’t learn about until years later.

Abolishing Legend Rule

New 16 Jul 2015 Asked by mgmegadog 11 Comments

If the legend rule were to be abolished, what would Brothers Yamazaki and Mirror Gallery actually say on them?

I don’t know. We’ve made rules changes that have essentially made cards do nothing before.

Alternate Art Confusion

New 15 Jun 2015 Asked by kaiserruhsm 24 Comments

I don't know if this has been explicitly stated, but was the difference between Brothers Yamazaki and the alternate arts from the early sets that each art was on the same sheet for the latter? or was wizards just more willing to spend money for almost no reason before the fallen empires crash?

The reason we stopped with the alternate art was it caused confusion in gameplay as the art is the primary means by how players identify cards.

Birthday and Twin Trivia

New 13 Nov 2014 Asked by abrohm 63 Comments

It's my sister and I's birthday! Can you tell us something about either of kamigawa's twins, the brothers yamazaki or Riku? or Timbor and Lumia? And speaking of which, why are all of magic's twins red? I mean aside from evil twin.

I had this cool idea to do two different arts for the Brothers Yamizaki, one of each brother. Only after the set was printed did I realize that it required an entire other sheet and was done at a huge expense which I would have stopped had I known. I don’t know why most twins have been red. It wasn’t planned. Triplets, though, are apparently green/white. Happy Birthday!

Concept of Twins Cards

New 29 Jun 2014 Asked by captainjackharness 22 Comments

"Have you ever considered printing "twins"? (Two cards with the same name but with a minor change in art and mechanics)" To this person; They did, they named them Brothers Yamazaki ;)

Note that was a change in art and not mechanics.
