Animus of Predation

Design Space Inquiry

It occurs to me that "pick a keyword" Eternal cards like Animus of Predation, Cairn Wanderer, Escaped Shapeshifter, etc. have to list all the relevant keywords, but Acorn cards can lean on you-know-what-I-mean language like "choose a creature keyword." So my question: is that actually fruitful design space?

There’s some design space, not as much as people probably think though.

Keywords Specification

Why do cards like Soul Flayer, Cairne Wanderer, and Animus of Predation specify key words and not just copy any keywords? Doesnt that limit forwards compatability or is that not a concern? Also why exclude prowess from Soulflayer?

It’s a rules issue. The rules require you list them.

Misunderstood Card Usage

You said Animus of Predation works fine in “casual constructed”. How do you play draft matters cards in constructed? (I hope you didn't just mean playing it as a vanilla creature)

I was confused and thought it wasn’t a draft only card.

Animus of Predation

Can you ask about Animus of Predation? Almost half of the keywords it can gain don't appear in Conspiracy (or only on a single card), which means unless it gets put into a cube or chaos draft, it's mostly going to be a Green air elemental. It can't even gain trample!

The number one format of Magic is “casual constructed” (aka “put cards I own in a deck”). It’s not a tournament format but it’s how the majority of players play. The card works just fine there.
