Concerns on Un Sets' Future

New 06 Dec 2021 Asked by sneak-theif 46 Comments

I'm scared for Un sets and I think my fears are unfounded. I liked unstable, and I'm pretty sure I'll like unfinity. But the shift to black border makes me feel like the backlash will be strong, it even makes me tentative. I imagine regular Un fans will still flock to the product but I'm having a much harder time waiting and seeing on this one. Any words of wisdom or advice on the whole black border unset debate?

Just imagine we let Commander players play with the die rolling, Host/Augment, and Contraptions cards from Unstable. That’s basically all we’re doing, letting casual players have access to casual cards that don’t cause tournament issues.

You started out as a comedy writer and then changed directions and became a game designer. Any advice or words of wisdom for people who’s lives might be going in a very different direction than they’d planned?

Don’t get too locked into what you thought your life was going to be. It’s okay to shift as things change.

Green Philosophy

Any words of wisdom about understanding Green philosophically outside of fantasy & fiction? White's communal and lawful, Blue's progressive and thoughtful, Black's selfish and goal oriented, Red is passionate and impulsive, those things apply to people irl easily, but it's hard to attribute Green's philosophies to non-specific people's irl without getting literal with hippies, hunters, animal rights activists, etc. Any example of a non-plant/animal themed Green character?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is pretty green. Original comics Wolverine was pretty green. Yoda is both physically and philosophically green.

Are there any words of wisdom or advice you can give people who will be participating in the GDS3?

My best advice is that the GDS is about demonstrating what you have to offer Magic. Show us why hiring you would offer us something new. Note that doesn’t mean not respecting the rules.

How to tell you're an enfranchised fan: The following Mark words of wisdom actually makes sense: "The problem is you need more cards that are the thing than things that care about the thing as-fanwise." =P

I’ll make designers out of all of you if it’s the last thing I do. : )

We are expecting our first child in March, and we're super excited. My wife and I are both very nerdy in our own ways. Any sage words of wisdom on being an awesome nerdy parent? (I think this could be an awesome podcast topic btw)

You can expose your child to the things you love but you have to allow them to choose whether or not to embrace them.
