Surgeon General Commander

Acorn Mechanics Legality

New 08 Aug 2022 Asked by elderdragonmaster55 37 Comments

Follow up on surgeon general commanderIs it safe to assume it’s gonna stay in acorn holo stamp (not eternal legal) all because of “Augment” part of it since clearly the aura and mutate part is all clear.

As someone else pointed out, Steamflogger Boss is eternal legal and references assembling contraptions which only exist on silver-bordered cards, so probably that’s not an issue.

Eternal Acorn Rules

New 08 Aug 2022 Asked by fogity 23 Comments

Would it really be a problem for an eternal card to trigger off of an acorn mechanic (re. Surgeon General Commander)? The rules could just say that the term does not have a "tournament magic" meaning and maybe have a note about how to learn about acorn magic (in the spirit of rule 100.6b).

It might not be a problem, but I don’t definitively know that.

Surgeon General Commander Query

New 08 Aug 2022 Asked by lgosvse 33 Comments

Because Surgeon General Commander has the odd templating of "T: Add W, U, B, R, or G", I assume that means that it can't tap for mana of silver-bordered colors like pink and gold, right? Or is it equivalent to "add one mana of any color" and it's just written in a weird way?

No, it can only add those five colors.

Un-rule Card Strategy

New 20 Jul 2022 Asked by karakur1-blog 22 Comments

Un-rules question! If I use a Teacher's Pet to combine my Half-Orc, Half- with a Mer Man, does that let me draw a card from Surgeon General Commander?

I’ll say yes, draw a card.

Enchanting and Surgeon General Commander

New 09 Jul 2022 Asked by lil-cheez 29 Comments

Hi Mark, I don't know it this classifies as an "Un-question" but here we go. Surgeon General Commander makes you draw a card everytime you enchant a creature, what to my understanding is to play an aura paying its cost and targeting; but let's say the aura enters the battlefield not by casting, via Sun Titan or Illuna for example; does Surgeon care for that?

Surgeon Commander just cares that it gets enchanted. It cares not how it got enchanted. So, those still trigger the ability.

Timeline of Mutate Design

When “surgeon general commander” was designed, did you already have mutate designed internally, or was it more of a “steamflogger boss” situation?

No, it was very much done and coming out in a month. We just thought it was a cool call forward.

Commander Deck around Unfinity Mechanic

New 30 Aug 2021 Asked by radiant-galvanisation 51 Comments

Unstable gave great support for making a Commander deck themed around contraptions, and Unsanctioned gave us Surgeon General Commander, who is just all-around amazing and perfect for Host/Augment decks. Do you think there is enough support in Unfinity to build a Commander deck around one of the mechanics of the set like those two I mentioned?

I do.

Clarifying 'Surgeon Commander' Card Name

New 03 Jun 2021 Asked by feketelo 22 Comments

Hey, Mark!I thought I recalled you saying the card's name is "Surgeon Commander" because "general" was crossed out. However, Gatherer has it listed as "Surgeon General Commander".Is this an error, or am I mistaken?

General should be crossed out.

Surgeon Commander's Role

High fives all around for Un-Sanctioned, and in particular for Surgeon General Commander. I've been trying to build a Dr. Julius Jumblemorph commander deck for a while, and swapping him in fixes just about all the deckbuilding problems I was having.

That was the card’s purpose. Note that the name is just Surgeon Commander. The General has been crossed off.
