Spell Pierce

White Colorshifted Mana Leak

New 25 Jul 2021 Asked by mysticleviathan 43 Comments

So can white get a colorshifted mana leak or spell pierce? or are those too efficient for white?

I’m not sure white’s spell taxing is going to be as efficient as the best taxing spell blue’s done historically.

Corrected Win Percentages

Not that it's a big deal, but you left off the win percentages for a few of the first round matches (Cryptic Command, Mana Drain, Remand).

Fixed it on my chart. Thanks. Cryptic Command beat Spell Pierce with 82%. Mana Drain beat Spellsputter Sprite with 75%. Remand beat Mana Leak with 54%.

Counterspell Classifications

What is the line between hard counter and soft counter in R&D? For instance, Counterspell is presumably a hard counter and Spell Pierce is presumably a soft counter, but what about Mana Leak or Negate?

A hard counter will always counter any spell. If it only sometimes works or only works on a subset of spells, it’s considered a soft counter.

Counter Spells Evolution

New 10 May 2013 Asked by mazerin 9 Comments

You said counter spells have weakened since Counterspell, but Counterspell is a lot less played in Legacy that other counters such as Force of Will, Daze, and Spell Pierce. How is that explained, just curious?

Because it’s more expensive to play than every other counterspell you listed. Note that all of those are also older cards.

Izzet Charm Structure

New 30 Aug 2012 Asked by lowbeyonder 9 Comments

Is it deliberate that Izzet Charm has one red ability (Shock), one blue ability (Spell Pierce), and one that's both (Careful Study/Faithless Looting)? Are other multicolored charm spells done that way?

Yes, you’ve hit the magical recipe.
