Impact on Storm Scale

New 11 Jul 2024 Asked by tarotbycharles 0 Comments

Since the upcoming Ral, Crackling Wit card makes it possible to give your spells Storm does that in any way impact the Storm Scale?

It does not. As I said a few months ago. The name of a scale getting printed is not going to change the name of the scale. 10’s can happen.

Gardening Advice Requested

New 27 Feb 2023 Asked by jimmycomments 39 Comments

Hi Mark. I need some gardening advice if that's okay. I have dwarves in my rutabagas. I've tried everything to get rid of them. One day I tried a crackling club, the next day I tried some engulfing flames. Neither worked. The next day I had some javelineers throw a javelin at them, and that didn't work either. I even tried a gut shot, which was quite painful for me, and that didn't even work. Please, Mark, I'm running out of options! Any advice is very welcome!

Talk with Paka. She can fetch the pestridder.

Genju Style Land Enchantments

New 17 Feb 2022 Asked by pantswithoutlegholes 27 Comments

i like kamigawa neon dynasty just like everybody else, but i find some decisions curious, and none more than the choice to include genju style land enchantments (crackling emergence and harmonious emergence) but not call them genju. i feel like the connection is easy to miss with the different names. was there a practical reason for this?

The playtest names included Genju. My guess is that they were concepted in a way where the word Genju didn’t make sense.

Opinion on Exile-related Cards

New 18 Mar 2020 Asked by darkfox190 34 Comments

How do you feel about cards that care about cards being in exile, but don't bring them back from Exile? Crackling Drake for example, as opposed to something like Riftsweeper.

I’m okay with caring about cards in exile as long as you don’t bring them back (except if you’re the card/effect that exiled them).

Adventure Card Mechanics

Do adventures count as instants/sorceries when their in the graveyard for effects like Crackling Drake?

I don’t believe so. Check the mechanics article on the Wizards web site for all the details.

Drake Cycle Interest

So, we've had Snapping Drake since 1997 and now we have Crackling Drake. Can you promise me that it won't be another 21 years before you finish the cycle and give us Popping Drake?

No promises, but it’s now on our radar.

Grand Calcutron Mechanics

New 03 Dec 2017 Asked by pbesteves 18 Comments

How the interaction between The Grand Calcutron and cards with Rack effects, such as The Rack, Rackling, Wheel of Torture, etc work? If I have Calcturon in play and I play The Rack, do I subtract 3 minus 0, since their hands bacame a program or I still count the amount of cards in their program?

The hand is a program but is still your hand, you count the number of cards in it for effects that care about number.

Planeswalker Birthday Trivia

New 10 Jun 2016 Asked by malvion-blog 49 Comments

Can I have some birthday trivia on my favourite planeswalker, Arlinn Kord? If not, can I have some trivia on my favourite instant, Crackling Doom?

Arlinn Kord (well, a Red/Green werewolf planeswalker) was designed for Innistrad, but the creative team suggested using the transforming planeswalker slot for Garruk instead to show a major story plot. Happy Birthday!

Card Design Red Flags

New 25 Oct 2014 Asked by reuben-brazil-blog 12 Comments

Red Flagging question: Common cards that targets other creatures yet sacrifices itself like crackling triton or scaldkin. Red flagged or not?

They’re red flagged but that doesn’t mean they can’t exist. It depends on numerous factors.
