Oracle of Mul Daya

Future Sight Effects Oversight

New 27 Jun 2023 Asked by stormtide-leviathan 22 Comments

I really enjoyed the walkthrough of the history of future sight effects in your article! You excluded what I'd consider an important subset in the land-based ones though, like oracle of mul daya and courser of kruphix. Was this purposeful, or just a mistake?

Just an oversight.

Preference in Card Templating

New 21 Jun 2022 Asked by elmarcodepico 40 Comments

Hey Mark! A little feedback on Future Sight effect templating. I vastly, vastly prefer the old template where you play with the top card of your library revealed (Future Sight, Oracle of Mul Daya, Courser of Kruphix). I find it annoying to play with the new template (Bolas's Citadel, Mystic Forge, Augur of Autumn), since it always leads to one player staring at the other as they check the top of their library over and over and over.

The reason we prefer it is to keep hidden information in the game. If my opponent always sees the top card of my library, they (eventually) know everything in my hand, and that’s just less fun gameplay.

Rethinking Reprints of Plane-Based Names

New 12 Jan 2022 Asked by toastynuts86 61 Comments

Now that we have the technology to do re-named versions of existing cards (i.e. - Godzilla/Dracula), would it be possible to reprint a card with a plane-based name (Oracle of Mul Daya being from Zendikar, for example) on a different plane? This seems especially useful in instances where Play Design has concerns for Eternal decks having access to multiple cards with the same effect.

It isn’t a line we’ve crossed yet, but I agree it’s an area for us to discuss,

All Colors Top Card Look

Can all colors look at their top card freely? Could we see an oracle of mul daya with that more modern language?

Only blue does it without a purpose to it.

Delving into DFC

New 18 Dec 2020 Asked by jonpaulcardenas 34 Comments

I have some DFC questions. So what happens if I have a Blackbloom rogue in play and I cast MoonMist? If I have Oracle of Mul daya out Can I play Blackbloom Rogue from the top of my Library? Is there any Traditional DFC that can get to its back side without using Transform? Is there currently any MDFC that can get to its back side with Transform? How do MDFC get to there Backside?

You can only transform a card with transform. Moonmist is merely creating a different way to transform cards with transform. A MDFC doesn’t have transform, so it can’t be transformed.

We do sometimes see green looking at the future in green ways in cards like Oracle of Mul Daya

Green does a little forward looking.

Oracle of Mul Daya Trivia

Seems like my birthday ask may have gotten buried. Any chance I could get some trivia on my favorite card "oracle of mul daya"?

That card was a green riff of the card Future Sight. Happy Birthday!

Gameplay Mechanics Clarified

A further question about Yet Another Aether Vortex - If I control that enchantment, and also control Oracle of Mul Daya, can I play a land that's on top of my library? Technically would the land not be changing zones if I did? Does it enter the battlefield and trigger landfall if the last zone it was in was also the battlefield? If I tap it while it's atop my library before playing it, does it "enter" untapped?

Yes.No.Yes.No.

Library Visibility Rule

New 17 Feb 2014 Asked by su92 20 Comments

Why do cards like Oracle of Mul Daya say "Play with the top card of your library revealed" instead of "You may look at the top card of your library"?

Because everyone else has to know you making a legal move.

Land Drop Inquiry

New 24 May 2013 Asked by wasteofzerosandones 4 Comments

I know you're not the rules guru, but can you (or have someone) go more into depth about the land drop? For instance: I play my land for turn (1). Then I play cast Explore and play a land (2). If I then play Oracle of Mul Daya, do I get a third land drop that turn?

I recommend going to Matt Tabak’s Tumblr: http://tabakrules.tumblr.com/post/51155573355/so-many-questions
