Comet Storm

Suggestion for Scientific Realism

Some other suggestions for "Technically Correct Science World":

  • Finally combining dogs and wolves under the Canid type
  • Comet Storm becomes Meteor Storm since the projectiles entered the atmosphere
  • Pooling Venom becomes Pooling Poison, since it's not injected
  • Lightning Bolt now only targets the tallest object on the battlefield

Color Identity Balance

New 20 Dec 2018 Asked by noblecuriosity 37 Comments

Blue excelling at many low as-fan things vs. other colors excelling at a few high as-fan things means blue's splashy (set-selling) MEMORABLE cards get to be more varied and unique. Ex. All Modern Masters mythics: U: Keiga, Snapcaster Mage, Temporal Manipulation, Tezzeret the Seeker, Vendilion Clique. 5 radically different effects, 2 blue-exclusive. Vs. R: Bonfire of the Damned, Comet storm, Kiki-Jiki, Past in Flames, Ryusei; 3/5 are damage boardwipes, the other 2 could be bends in U. See issue?

I’ve talked plenty about how Snapcaster is pushing more towards red and Vendilion Click is a black card masquerading as a blue card (aka a heavy bend). Things are more balanced than they seem.

Legendary Sorcery Costs

New 25 Apr 2018 Asked by howdidigethereimnotgoodwithmagic 56 Comments

I've looked into the legendary sorcery spells and it is definitely true that they are way cheaper than they should be compared to non-legendary. The theme seems to be either it's 2 mana cheaper, or that it does a 2-3 mana effect it wouldn't do in a vanilla version. When you look at similar cards to them (Genesis Wave, Part the Waterveil, Comet Storm (instant, I know), March of the Tomb, Pick-your-wrath-effect, and Rise From the Grave) you'll find them to be elegantly and aggressively costed!

Thanks for doing the homework. : )

Mechanics and Kicker

New 24 Sep 2016 Asked by monoredwarlock 23 Comments

Technically, a lot of mechanics are just kicker renamed. In that they could be kicker but with the rules on the card instead of the reminder box. (Eg: Strive and Comet Storm)

Most of the mechanics players think are “just Kicker” technically aren’t.

Comparing Comet Storm

New 25 Jan 2015 Asked by lordgrothendieck 44 Comments

You like to bring up Barren Glory as an example of a black-bordered functional reprint of a silver-bordered card, but has anyone pointed out to you that Comet Storm is not a functional reprint, but just strictly better than The Ultimate Nightmare of Wizards of the Coast® Customer Service?

Strictly better? Coney Storm doesn’t provide you with any phone numbers. : )

XY Spell Complexity

New 01 Nov 2013 Asked by sirlrb 5 Comments

The topic of people's math abilities has been brought up here and the issues that X spells bring but is an XY spell really that bad? Could you do say one at Mythic Rarity or something? A spell like Comet Storm just seems clunkier to me using multikicker when it could just be YXRR deals X damage to 1+Y targets.

We printed Fireball once with XY, so we’ve done the experiment. It didn’t go well.
