Booster Pack Fortune

New 27 May 2024 Asked by dusqofrakdos 2 Comments

Hello and Happy Birthday! One of my older MTG memories is when a friend and I were shopping at the local card shop as teenagers when Betrayers of Kamigawa was recently released. My friend said I always had good luck at picking the booster that had the card he wanted, so he had me pick one out for him that day. I said something along the lines of "there's no way you're getting it" and he cracked it and the shopkeeper laughed and said "Didn't get whaaaa?"

Land Bounce in Green

New 25 Apr 2021 Asked by deyuil 29 Comments

Can Green still bounce land (to the top of their owner's library)? Land destruction on its own is pretty rare to see in Standard, but the ability to put a land on top of somebody's deck has been even rarer. I think the last cards that were printed that specifically did that were Rootrunner (Champions of Kamigawa) and Uproot (Betrayers of Kamigawa), and the newest card I can find that could do this was Primal Command. Is this something that Green still is allowed to do?

No, Green hasn’t been able to do that for many years.

Trivia on Ninjas of MTG

New 10 Apr 2020 Asked by raienryumode 48 Comments

Hey Mark! Ikoria is looking like a whole lot of fun so far! Anyway, I was hoping I could get some birthday trivia on the ninjas of MTG.

Champions of Kamigawa block made a lot of mistakes, but I think one of its biggest ones was not making enough Ninjas. I was the one who suggested holding them off for Betrayers of Kamigawa and I believe now that it was a mistake. Happy Birthday!

Green Samurai or Ninjas

Green samurai or green ninjas, which would you guess comes first?

We already made a green Samurai (in Betrayers of Kamigawa) - Isao, Enlightened Bushi.

Monored Card Draw

Hello! If Heed the Mists, a draw spell from Betrayers of Kamigawa, was printed today, could it be monored?

No, red doesn’t get that kind of card draw.

Ninja Flavor Facts

Can you tell me something cool about Ninjas as a gift for my birthday?

We saved Ninjas so that Betrayers of Kamigawa would have something flavorful not delivered in Champions of Kamigawa. We now consider that a mistake. Champions should have had ninjas. Happy Birthday!

Flowstone Discussion

New 20 Dec 2016 Asked by theonetrueqriist 16 Comments

Regarding the Flowstone discussion, Mannichi, the Fevered Dream came out in Betrayers of Kamigawa in early 2005, much later than the earlier named card. While the ability is not technically Flowstone it is a mono-red creature that swaps p/t of all creatures on the field, repeatedly and at will. How does this factor into the discussion regarding Red's slice of the pie?

It is no longer in Red’s slice of the pie.

Birthday Trivia

New 16 Jun 2015 Asked by tylerouzts 36 Comments

Hello Maro! Today is my birthday, June 15, which happens to be the middle month and then also the middle of that month. So my trivia question comes from Magic's current middle expansion, Betrayers of Kamigawa and the middle card of that set (rounded down): Sickening Shoal. (Or any of the Shoal cycle.) Thanks Maro!

The Shoals were designed, I believe, by Mike Elliott, the lead designer of Betrayers of Kamigawa. They were a tweak on the pitch cards from Alliances. Mike was trying to make which card you discarded matter more so he tied the effect to the converted mana cost of the card you discarded.Happy Birthday!

Ninjas in Sets

New 30 Mar 2015 Asked by cannotwynn 129 Comments

"I doubt we’ve seen the last of ninjas." Have we truly even seen the *first* of ninjas? We've only seen what they've allowed us to see.

Yeah, ninjas are in every set. Betrayers of Kamigawa was the only set with bad ninjas. : )

Ninja Tribe Trivia

New 20 Aug 2014 Asked by l1loneviet1l 18 Comments

It was my birthday a couple days ago, and I wasn't able to ask you a question until now. But I'd like to ask for trivia on my favorite tribe, ninjas. Please and thank you : )

We were going to do ninjas in Champions of Kamigawa but felt we need to save something expected to give Betrayers of Kamigawa come thing cool. We chose ninjas. Ninjitsu was designed to be a ninja mechanic. Happy Birthday!

Ninja Presence Joke

Haven't people noticed the ninjas in the last few sets? M14 had a distinct ninja tribal theme.

Ninjas have actually been in every set. Betrayers of Kamigawa was just the one time they got lazy. : )

More Foxes Requested

New 08 Oct 2013 Asked by hellodollg4-deactivated20210120 17 Comments

Since there really haven't been any fox creature since Champions/Betrayers of Kamigawa (which was 10 years ago!) other than Vulpine Goliath and Silverchase Fox, would it be possible to add a few more fox creatures or fox-related things? Because foxes are awesome ~(・∀・ )~

I’m sure we’ll see foxes again, we just need the right environment for them.
