Ravnica Design Innovations Idea

New 18 Aug 2021 Asked by infrasonic42 138 Comments

On the topic of return sets and how BFZ and SOI were considered to be too large of deviations from their original planes, I feel like Ravnica has the opposite problem. Apart from WAR (which was an event set), three visits to the plane and I feel that the sets have been too conservative with the design. I’m aware the current guild structure works fine, but I would love to see more innovations for future Ravnica sets.

Here’s a question. How would you feel if we went to Ravnica and it wasn’t structured as a guild set? It would still have the guilds as a creative element, but it wouldn’t be a faction set (guilds wouldn’t each have a keyword, and such).

Red 'Three' Cards

While looking up Three Visits, I discovered that Red is the the only color to not have a (non un) card beginning with the word 'Three'. This travesthree cannot stand!

Un cards are Magic cards.

Request for Foil Reprints

Hey Mark, can I make a weird request? There are a few old Portal cards that I and others need in foil for Cube. Can you try to push them into a future Horizons or Masters-esque set? The cards are: Omen, Fire Ambush, Three Visits, and Devastation.

I can pass along the info.

When will design complete the Three cycle(Three Dreams, Three Wishes, Three Tradgedies, Three Visits)? Red feels left out- he told me so.

Ooh, an incomplete cycle I was unaware of. I’ll look into it.
